State of Decay 2

Yeah, the first game was glitchy as hell and I was expecting the second one to be more of the same. I had some good fun during the opening hours of the first game when you're exploring that camping site, killing zombies and looting houses, but then it just falls flat. I'll also never forget that one of the missions in the late game (the one with that redneck family in that house) is simply unfinished and their storyline just stops.

Downloaded this through Game Pass as I enjoyed the first one.

I played a quick hour or so and it seems, well, exactly the same as the first one with a different map. Honestly struggling to notice anything more than very minor differences so far. Is this more than State of Decay with a new map and slightly better graphics?

How does co-op in this work?

People can join a hosts game, but other players can only do limited things in someone else's game, like helping to kill zombies and collecting things. They can't build or help manage the camp though. Also they are tethered and restricted as to how far they can travel from the host in the game.

I enjoyed the first game and at the time I thought it would be great to play it as multiplayer. I was excited when they announced a sequel with 4 player co-op, but sadly that turned out to be only a half baked co-op mode really. Certainly not what the majority hoped for I'm sure.

Nonetheless, I've been hoping this will come to Steam, as was hinted at by Undead Labs some time ago. I would like to get it, although that will likely be in a sale. It may come to Steam, as Microsoft announced they were going to bring more games to Steam.

Probably. That and multiplayer mode.

Undead Labs are likely too small a developer without the resources to do much better.

SOD2 is a massive disappointment and not worth more than a couple of quid at least the first one was fun. Best thing you can do is forget the new story and get the Hearland DLC (SOD2 and Heartland DLC was free with Xbox PC pass) it gives you basically the first game map with the new engine and play it again. You start at the Dinosaur Base and expand from there. Some of the new Zombies are hard like the juggernaut etc its like playing the first game again but with a slightly new story bit better weapons, air strike etc .

For the original get the SOD Year 1 Edition and the Lifeline DLC this can be really good fun too defending a military base against waves of zombies, going out and scavenging. The new weapons are a hoot and you can create booby traps for zombies etc.

Yeah, played another hour or so last night and still struggling to notice anything different except this time the story and progression feel slower and less interesting. I may still play through it as I did enjoy the first one, but very disappointing that they seem to have basically released the same game again with a new map and vaguely different (worse) story.

The more you play it the more you will find the bugs. Its not as bad as at the beginning it has been patched a few times. Typical encounters - Zombies walking in the air, blowing zombies up leaving limbs in the air, zombies stuck in walls, fences, doors etc. Accidentally blow yourself up and get stuck in mid air etc.

Loved the first one and pretty much completed it beyond the story and all the DLC. Some of the mods were good too, improved AI for defending base, Walking Dead Characters as fellow survivors, change the stats/build for your base etc etc.

Thats why I was so disappointed with the sequel so much worse than the first one.

SOD2 sucks big time unless they have addressed all the issues with it on the new patch. Remastered GFX smacks of polishing a you know what.
Only worth getting for the Heartland DLC and thats only because it based on the original SOD1 map.

Does the MS version get the new patch and new GFX ?
