Steam account recovery - asking for a friend...

Thanks @ic1male I will definitely do that if I get my account back, have had it nearly 20 years now and have many games on there

That is so bad for you and the very best wishes in resolving this. Due to the value and risks typically involved of such occurrences Valve have to work really hard to ensure the legitimate owner gets the account back.

I use 2FA with the mobile app, a pain at times, but I would not have it otherwise. So, yes good to do when you get out back, and also make a few purchases with a debit type card in your name, you can flip back to PayPal. It just associates that account with you.

You can also generate steam guard codes that allow access when used if you do not have access to your authenticator.

That account, if anything like mine, must have so much value associated with it.

Again, the very best wishes.

Hello Vimes, thank you very much for the reply, good advice I will use a debit card next time for a purchase or 2, in all the years I have had my Steam account I have never used Steam support.
The waiting is killing me.
I didn't receive a reply from my messages yesterday, I read Steam support work 24 hours, so hopefully I will hear back sometime soon.
Thanks again for the advice.

Wonderful indeed.

Just get 2FA up and going and consider your future purchases.

Great result, happy for you
Thanks Vimes,
Unfortunately I can't set up Steam Mobile Authenticator as my android phone is too old :(
I have added my phone number though.

I will make a purchase using a debit card, got my eye on the Command and Conquer collection :)

Also got my account back just in time for the Steam spring sale :)

At some point if you manage to get a more modern phone then consider 2FA, it is most useful.

Yup, I too have noted the sale, bought a couple all ready. My wallet is not thanking me but my ever growing list of games not played just keeps on growing......what can you do, apart from buy more lol...!

I do have a newer phone, unfortunately that one is not very reliable and the power goes on it, even when it is showing as 100%, so have been continuing to use my old reliable android phone.
Will look into buying another stable phone.

Thanks

Glad to hear you got your account back. Do whatever you can to try and get a phone that can do 2FA - it is essential imo, especially if you have a large digital library ( in my 17th year on Steam with over 250 games ).

Thanks @xaldub I'll probably just try and use my dodgy powered new phone, but may get another, have my eye on one, but funds are a bit tight this month.

Make sure you have 2FA enabled on your e-mail account too @Shaolin Chicken, as that is another common route of compromising other accounts you have (a lot of services have an implicit level of trust in that if you can access an e-mail they've sent you then it must be you).
