Steam Chat: Update

Am I now automatically signed into Friends whether I like it or not ? Thats quite annoying, cant find any option to disable , other than remembering to make myself invisible as i'm logging out ... which I wont remember ..

Yes, also, ive just found, that if you set yourself to invisible, once you start a game, you become visible, so everyone can see you, but ive found a workaround to get offline, add -nofriendsui at the end of the "Target" box in the Steam shortcut properties

Reverts the chat back to previous, so you have to sign in, and brings back offline :)

Thanks that's brill, can now turn the Pc on and leave it do the gatrillion gigabyte Pubg updates without being visible ... Especially on working from home days ... Yes I really am "working" )

Gutted. This new update completely ***** up the PixelVision skin.
Yeah, ****** it right up :(

I believe they are working on a version for the new chat update. Hopefully not too far away, I loved PixelVision2!
Good to hear, thanks :)
There is a quick fix out already for the skin, if you go to post 152 by syselek he has the link to the BeatFastFix zip file. I just downloaded it and the client is back to normal. Well, part from the friends list if you have that one open. :p From what I read over at the PixelVision steam discussions Black Blade is working on a more permanent solution but if you don't want to wait, there is that quick fix ^^ .

For some annoying reason, it keeps minimising my game every time someone on my friends list changes their game. Notifications are turned off so I don't know what's happening...

The friends list I can put up with, but the chat window, what's up with that? I pretty much need a separate monitor dedicated to just Steam chat to make it usable. Seems like so much wasted space for UI elements and so little space used for the actual chat.

Saw this over at Steam for the PixelVision discussion thread and thought I let you guys now. It's posted by the guy that made the PixelVision skin so most likely he knows what he talking about.

At this time it seems that there is not skining in the new UI
That may mean that in 2019 the skining will be completely killed out for all the clinet (2019 is the time Valve said there going to stop supporting XP, the new UI dose not work on XP, so I am guess that in 2019 is when the entire clinet will become the new UI)

There is a tread asking Valve to not frogot the skining abilty in the Steam Clinet Beta group
At this time it dose not seem possible, and I try to work on something to bypass the Steam fix and then apply are skin on top of it, but Valve did not accept it so seems like I will not be able ot upload it to Steam when its ready, will have to upload it else where when its ready if it works

For now how ever skining is not possible on the new UI

Have a look at r/Steam over on Reddit. Lots of posts about how to make it look better etc.

I don't see what the hate is about in all honesty, the old client was outdated and looked crap. I think the new one is great.

You're a star. I mostly use uPlay these days to play the bulk of my games because Steam is utter cack in every area. I absolutely cannot stand navigating the store due to all the tons of wasted space (I was sure you could edit that?) so I was surprised to hear of a chat update....what a mess.

/me goes back to quakenet irc...

The only thing so far that I don't like is not being able to use separate audio device for comms. Not an issue for me, as I have game and comms audio coming through headphones. Two of my friends like headset for comms and game audio from speakers.

Unless Valve add an option for separate audio device to used for comms, then we'll likely be sticking to separate software. Haven't used Discord, so will likely give that a go. Been using Skype for years, but Microsoft are about to drop the previous version for the new design (which I don't like), so was glad when Valve updated voice chat, only to find you can't separate voice and game audio. :/

What? Oh how did they mess that up?

It really is stupid that, as once you become auto visible when starting a game, you could end up being bombarded with messages from all your m8s, who've noticed that you've come on, when you just want to play without being disturbed :p

I've written to Gabe's local Bucket'o'Chicken shop and demand they withhold his daily fix until his goblins relent and remove this **** from being forced down our throat

The new UI breaks the client for me, makes any page that uses the browser inaccessible; Store, Profile, Activity, Market, all get stuck in a 5-second reloading loop. The new Friends & Chat feature doesn't work at all. I have to add -nofriendsui to my Steam shortcut in order to use Steam. I use Win7 x64.

I've tried:
- Relogging
- Reinstalling
- Clearing browser cahce and cookies
- Disabling DirectWrite
- Ensuring Steam is allowed through firewall

Nothing works, currently waiting for Steam Support to respond.

Im on Win 7 still, and it all works fine for me, just done the -nofriendsui, to get offline mode back.

Think that's a bug at your end, mine stays invisible including after restart/boot ect. Also stay like it when I play a game.

Edit:

Having said that am on a different OS so it could be that.
