Steam Chat: Update

Think that's a bug at your end, mine stays invisible including after restart/boot ect. Also stay like it when I play a game.

Edit:

Having said that am on a different OS so it could be that.

It did remember to stay invisible, i just never tried it ingame, to see if it did make you go visible when starting a one, i just read it made you visible on starting a game, over on the Steam forums (i think), as loads were going off about it, and i didn't want the chat starting automatically all the time i logged in, wether i was set to invisible or not, so did the -nofriendsui to get the offline back, and have to re-sign back into it, if wanting to use it :p

Chat window pops up when I start Windows - irritating. Any way of turning that off other than forcing Steam not to start with the pc?

I asked earlier and no response. Ferreting around in the Settings did not reveal any option to prevent the pop up, although in my case only when you start a game as Steam is disabled from auto start.

I did this

start regedit
navigate to
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
edit "Steam" and add
-silent -nochatui -nofriendsui

You probably already have the -silent as one of the options

I'm pretty sure they added the ability to change the font size in the last update, Saturday I think it was?
cheers for letting me know at the time.

OK yep they have a font size slider but it makes no difference on the I game overla chat window.
So my question.

Is there a settings.config XML that I can go and change the font sizes again. In the old chat there was but I have been unable to find anything for the new...

Have a look at r/Steam over on Reddit. Lots of posts about how to make it look better etc.

I don't see what the hate is about in all honesty, the old client was outdated and looked crap. I think the new one is great.
The old chat was streamlined and efficient while the new chat looks like crap and doesn’t function as well with it being clunky and space inefficient. One of my friends posted a link and instead of a nice simple line which the old chat did the new chat took up 10 lines and worse I couldn’t even tell what the link was for.

The main function of the chat is to chat and the new one is worse for that. For me the new chat feels like a rubbish mobile design pushed to the PC.

To stop the chat window starting with Windows:

Reboot. Wait for Steam to fully load, leave the chat window open until it does. Close the chat window. Exit Steam via the Windows toolbar Steam icon, i.e. right click on it and click exit. Wait for a bit. Reboot. Chat window should now not load at startup. Found this advice on a stream thread and it worked for me, no messing with the registry.

Can confirm that this works.

Really hated the fact that it kept logging into friends every time I started and that the friends list was always on top when started.

So I typed -nofriendsui in target for the Steam .exe to go back to the old version.

Anyone finding that the audio quality is a bit unreliable? Every now and then one or more of us will start getting lost packets and sounds like a robot, yet switching to discord completely solves the problem. It is enough to stop us using the voice and is keeping us on discord.

New Steam update fixes a few things with voice chat, but for me, the most important is the inclusion of being able to independently set input and output audio devices. :D
