guys, have a look at your portals...the latest update seems to have made our portals look like black holes...you can't see the other side of the portal!
I'm having the same issue! D:
I'm downloading portal at the moment, will try it later tonight. (I have a late 2009 MBP 2.8Ghz with the 9600M GT 512MB graphics). I will report back later on how the performance is.
How do you display the FPS?
edit- To draw FPS in portal you use cl_showfps 1
I seem to be averaging between 45 and 60, which doesn't seem sluggish, and it plays quite nicely.

Working perfectly here to be honest.
REALLY need to sort the performance out, my HD4870 is hardly getting pushed at all
As for the location of the steam folder, I have GOOD NEWS!!!
It's moving (thanks to information I received from an email I sent steam) to Application support.

So 10.6.4 + this + bug fixes for black portal and performance issues and we are sorted.
On the 9400 its playable, on the 9600 it burns your lap a bit.... In real terms on the 9600 its just like in windows apart from black portals, which i didnt have on the first 2 goes on the mac version (only the 3rd time i loaded it up which made no sense!).
On the other plus (for my i love civ4 update) civ4 loads sometimes, no idea why it does or doesnt, but did and pretty much works fine (apart from the leader heads) and plays like the windows version, but with WORKING MAC BUTTON-LESS TRACK PAD!!!
never have i felt so good for 2 finger right clicking to actually work 
I think steam is being steam and just does its own thing till it sorts it self out...ish

New update fixes the crash on exit and the black portals!!!

How are games running compared to PC? My 8800GT was fine under Bootcamp so hoping it's the same in OSX! Ah oo only Portal, was looking forward to some TF2 action

OpenGL needs some work which should be coming in the next update
