Steam IS coming to OS X

He makes some good points, however he needs to realise that this company has been Windows based its whole life. There are lots of areas that it brings the Windows hated side-effects into. At the end of the day, it's their first release and they're trying to do what their consumers want, bring Steam to the Mac. Give it a few months and they should have all the bugs (which are usually minor) ironed out and hopefully they'll bring a few guys onboard who are used to working with Apple guidelines UI to adjust Steam to reflect an Apple program.

he makes only one that i can see,

the colour profile changes when launching portal, not a biggie, but has been noted by the openGL programmer as a thing he needs to work on.:D

You can stop that happening by changing options within steams preferences.
I did that myself because I always have a look at a new app's preferences, but that's not the point.

To me the introduction of Steam to Mac is definitely a good thing, but the execution has been pretty poor so far.

I've set everything to max on Portal, pressed Apply and got some funny distortion

Restarted Portal, now all I get is a black screen on loading. Great

Will wait for the bugs to be fixed I think

Having a little trouble at my end. Downloaded it, opens, updates. When i click log into existing account it just says that it cant connect to the steam network and that i cant play in offline mode because there is no user data. When i try to create a new account it informs me that i can't because im currently in offline mode. Managed to avoid that but when ever i get to the end of the process it just says failed, cant connect to steam servers. Steam is inserting its self into its self. Any ideas ?

Your not logged into your Steam account on your PC by any chance are you?

I had this issue when I first installed Steam on my mac, I had to manually log out of my PC to be able to log into Steam on my mac.

After this first time glitch, it now auto logs me out of the PC when I login on the mac.

This may be an extremely naive question, but if you've purchased Windows downloads through steam I take it you need to re-buy your favourite Mac titles?

I have a steam account on windows on my laptop, which is all i use. Surely i don't have to go into windows and log out? That would just be silly

No, only if you are logged in and online on steam within windows. It seems you aren't having the same problem I was.

If it is a SteamPlay game then you don't need to rebuy. A list of currently supported titles can be found here. Valve have said that all their own games will be SteamPlay compatible, they will be releasing their titles slowly over the coming weeks each Wednesday.

Working perfectly here to be honest.

REALLY need to sort the performance out, my HD4870 is hardly getting pushed at all

As for the location of the steam folder, I have GOOD NEWS!!!

It's moving (thanks to information I received from an email I sent steam) to Application support.

Quote: "working here to move the content to Application Support"

So 10.6.4 + this + bug fixes for black portal and performance issues and we are sorted.

Yeah, works fine here.. just annoying as I'm used to a Logitech gaming mouse :p

Also, I've setup a symbolic link to the "Steam content" folder on my DroboPro. In fact I'm glad I've done that so I don't have to worry about backing up games or accessing the same game library from another machine on the network.

Another bug I've found is when you choose to "add shortcut to applications folder" when installing games. It doesn't put them in Macintosh HD > Applications, but rather creates an application folder in the Home directory
