Steam IS coming to OS X

It would be better if the GCF files were common to both platforms.

That way, I could download all the source games and simply wait for the OS X patch.

Hmm I see Killing Floor ends up as a frame show on my Mac Mini (9400M, 4GB, 2.66GHz). Pity.

Perhaps that's the reason they're taking their time with TF2..

I doubt we're going to see any decent Valve games until 10.6.4 is released, until then it's all 2D Indy games and stuff that'll run comfortably on a 9400.

Good news is 10.6.4 is at beta 4, meaning a release is probably only a few weeks away at most.

As a couple of people have mentioned on the Steam forums, Valve should really keep people apprised of developments instead of stringing them along with "on Wednesdays" then letting them down without releasing the games they're after. L4D2, TF2, HL2 etc.. Doubt it'll happen, as they are renowned for being a law unto themselves.

Well it's a start - I'll still be using a Symbolic link though because I want my game content to be available to all users on the system.

They should have chosen "/Library/Application Support/Steam" instead.

That is where it is going, is it not?

"~/Library/Application Support/Steam"

Thats Root library not user library?

I'm not quoting you to show you how, but I thought it would be helpful for others that want to create symbolic links without Terminal commands..

I've used this method and it works flawlessly. Very intuitive :)

Another option is to add a service to create symbolic link (this is how I do it).

Download this file, uncompress it and dump it in /library/services and then when you right click on anything you get the option to Make Symbolic Link. Easy :)

Repurposing Dropbox to share "hot" application files is neat, but it is worth keeping in mind that it's not fully robust since it can't resolve and merge conflicts in the way that say source code control software does.

Ignore the dropbox bit, he uses Automator to make a symbolic link which is what I was getting at. It's very simple once you have the action installed :)

I think you need to skip 3:20 in to see the meaty bit.

Im hoping 10.6.4 will improve things, well it's bound to improve. And I don't think the 9400m can compare to the 4890. Maybe the i5 Macbook and 330m would be a better comparison. :)

To be honest, I haven't got around to trying Portal on the iMac and i don't think my 21.5" will cope to well but I will wait for some more releases. ;)
