Steam IS coming to OS X

If my Mac Mini can run it without fault then I'm sure the iMac can.

Perhaps not at native res but at 1024x768 it looks fine :)

Possibly a fake, but a pretty good one all the same. All over Shacknews and the Steam forums as the next titles marked for release, provided TF2 checked out of beta OK we could end up with the rest of the Orange Box tomorrow.

Or just another raft of Indie games and a mediocre online shooter... /cynicism :)

Has anyone tried Portal on a 330m MBP yet?

I have a late '09 2.26/9400m MBP and Portal seems almost religiously capped at 30fps, and seems to just between 30fps and 60fps when you're not moving. Very strange behaviour indeed. (All low settings @ 1024x768 iirc)

I completed Portal on the Mac the other day, and whilst it was fairly cool to be playing on the mac (anyone noticed how alt-tabbing out actually works, something that has never worked properly from the days of HL1 on windows!) the horrible mouse acceleration curves made it very difficult - I couldn't imagine playing an actual FPS like CS:S or HL2 on it.

Turn off V-sync in the advanced graphics options.

Yeah I got the client update when I fired Steam up again tonight, seems like there's 2-3 client updates on a Wednesday prior to the drip feed of games.

Still nothing on the blog, news, store or forums yet aside from what we already know about HL2...

New client update, and HL2+Ep1/2 released. Although I can't see Ep2 in my list. Good news is there's now achievements for all the releases.

No TF2, again.

I reckon we'll get HL2DM, CS:S and, TFC and TF2 release together as some sort of "Wonder Wednesday". Although said "Wonder Wednesday" will be preceded by 6 "**** Wednesdays" hocking nothing but Indie games. :D

This is pretty poor. My downloads keep suspending/pausing, and I'm getting 40-100k/sec no matter where I try to D/L from. The mac nerds (myself included) must be feverish tonight.

Ah hl2 is more than good enough for this week :) been looking forward to a re-run through after finishing it for the first time last summer (took me from release day till then to sit through it all...)

Oh and im getting "steam servers are too busy YOU MASSIVE NERD" messages so i wont be playing this till the weekend really...

Imagine Valve pressured Apple in to putting a damn acceleration [ON|OFF] checkbox in to the Mouse preference pane.

Could happen if a lot of FPS players settle on Mac for some reason, but I doubt it.

I'm glad HL2 is out, as I never finished Episode 2 due to random crashes on XP 64.

The lack of multiplayer is annoying. I'd settle for HL2: DM at this point. Actually, it makes me think they haven't quite finished the multiplayer parts because HL2 contains 99% of the files needed for HL2: DM..

I think these releases are being staggered so Valve can deal with the faults on a piece meal approach.

HL2 + EP1 was buggy as hell last night, I had a stuttery slideshow with the sound dropping out for 10-15 seconds at a time and I had to run at medium textures as per the engine's recommendation. Not so on Windows Steam, it handled a full cranking no worries.

I still maintain that a lot of Valve's problems will be fixed with the 10.6.4 graphics update, as it stands now the engine and games are not fit for a release in my mind. Valve's approach of "release, fix bugs, listen, fix more bugs, release next game, fix bugs..." is doing nothing for the reputation of the platform.
