Steam IS coming to OS X

will footy manager be included in this ? i bought it on steam then moved to mac and havent been able to play it. if i had bought the retail one i could have played :(

That will depend on the developers, I'm sure they all won't be as nice of Valve about being able to play Windows/OS X versions of a game with a single licence.

Should be fine at a guess as the install cd is a universal binary (works on power pc from what i see as well as x86 osx) and i doubt the content over steam is different... (again a guess but i wouldnt be surprised if this is one of the earlyist things released on the steam for mac lineup)

Oh and over all BEST NEWS EVER!!! :D Only need bootcamp now for civ4 (refuse flatly to pay over £45 for a half finished patch job), oblivion and grid

It's a start, and obviously only valves source engine is the main ports now, however the other big titles that iv got on steam, cod, dawn war 2, avp etc all dx.... Difficult times, will we see games once again being coded for both dx and open gl? Don't get me wrong it's good but not as yet something to be jumping for joy over? Is good job have bootcamp!

Steam coming to OSX was one of those things that I could never forsee happening. Really pleased they're doing it, but also concerned given that the vast majority of Mac's out there are mostly Macbooks and iMacs, with fixed GPU units.

Granted the sauce engine is ancient now and I reckon even my 9400M could handle it on my 13" uMacbook, but how will future titles manage on even the latest ATI 4xxx gpu's?

Not really a new problem - a lot of the punters that make up a game's potential market have always had onboard or weak graphics.

Developers as attentive as Valve will probably have decent fallbacks in their engine.

These are the Steam games that I own..

Only ones I didn't get to play were the L4D games as I sold my gaming PC shortly before they launched.

Valve couldn't give a toss about developing for OS X. They barely support the 360.

Maybe they'll change Steam to allow third parties to sell games on OS X, but I can't see them porting any of their own current titles (HL2 etc) to support OS X in the near future.

Not unless OS X gets Direct X

Eat your words, Mister. Immediately.

I'd just like to point out to all those wondering; The original half life is NOT a source based game. Neither are the addons / CS / TFC etc. Valve have stated that they are porting the source engine to the mac; I would be very surprised if the "originals" run on a mac.

It is very possible to run HL2/Ep1/Ep2/TF2/L4D etc on the 9400m integrated chip. Don't expect to be able to max out any settings though.

Well my mac mini my end up as a gaming console too.. if Team Fortress 2, Killing Floor, Tortchlight appear..

I wonder if D3 will be Steam based..
