I didn't want to start another thread in the hardware section just to ask one question so I thought I'd ask in this thread seeing as it's related. 
I'm contemplating an iMac purchase in the next few days and I'm just wondering which would be the best for running the Source engined games on. I've never used a 9400m but being a mobility chip it's probably pants, although I may be wrong. Would the Radeon HD4670 offered in the £1200 model be far better at handling L4D2 et al? I'm wanting to have some of the effects turned on at least and I doubt the lower specced machine with the 9400M would allow anti aliasing and such?

I don't see the 4670 struggling, maybe with full on effects and high res? Also it will depend on how well OSX compares to Bootcamp performance of the Steam games being offered?
I have the 9400m its good for EVE, FM2010 and Red Alert 3 on the MAC. Plays 1080p too.
Not a bad performer to be honest. Enough for the 'casual' persona.
Having said that if money wasn't tight I'd go for the full on iMac!

If it's like Steam on Windows...
I found with my MB (C2D, 4GB DDR3, 9400M) that source based games are okay, but they're certainly not fluid, especially when there's a lot of action on the screen.
It's not pants by any stretch of the imagination, but if you plan on gaming regularly, i'd go for a dedicated card/chip.

I'm guessing that the best option to go for between the two would be the HD4670 then. That's the highest specced 21.5". I'd go for the bigger screen size so I could have the 4850 but it would be too big for me. Gaming will definitely not be the primary use but when I have a blast on Left 4 Dead now and again I'd like it to look half decent on that gorgeous iMac screen.

Double post but I think it's worth a new post of it's own. I'm now £1,225 lighter after going for the HD4670 iMac. Hopefully it should be able to handle the Source engine games pretty well and needless to say there'll be pics in the hardware thread when I take delivery.

New Windows client released Monday 26th, the Mac client can't be far off now.
Is that when the new UI for Windows comes out of the Beta stages?

Damnit. Looks like Valve aren't taking any more people on for the closed Beta at the moment. Shame because my new iMac is coming tomorrow, would've loved to have had a blast on Left4Dead.

Apparently the full release should be out fairly shortly. There's rumors going around that it's release will coincide with the new DLC for Left 4 Dead 2.
