Steam Link and Steam Controller now available to Pre Order

Although I've actually just picked one up I have a question.

Do you have to physically turn on the PC and load up the game first or will the link magically turn on the PC and load Steam?

I use my phone to WOL and then Teamviewer so I don't actually have to get up off the sofa but you know, just asking. :)

Also, I never had an XBox and don't really like the controllers - I read the ABXY and analogue stick are for those coming from XBox. If I have to learn a new pad would it be as well to learn the Steam pad rather than XBox?

The link should open steam in big picture mode so you can control what you do from there, i would have thouvht you can turn the pc off and on with it too? Maybe the centre button on the controller?

Does the link support keyboards too? Thinking of a few games that don't have menu support for gamepads, but work fine in-game. Very tempted to get one of these if that's the case.

GAME never had that pre order offer available though? Shame you can't just get the steam link box on its own from GAME.

Still waitin on the mailman for my Link.

Can anybody confirm that GAME have Steam controllers for sale in-store? Wont let me order them online for some reason. Dont want to take the 40 minute trip down to my nearest one to find they dont have em.

My Link was just delivered, looks well built and has a nice weight to it. Product of China, Assembled in USA, shipped from the Netherlands :p

Your PC needs to be on and Steam running for the Link to connect. From there on all control is from the Link. When your done playing you can turn the PC off from the Link.

My Steam Link arrived today. FPS is fine, almost the same FPS as playing it on the PC, but I am having issues with it completely freezing occasionally. I believe it's a network issue as it's worse if I go on wireless.

- Asus RT-N56U router with ethernet cable going to a TP-LINK TL-PA4030KIT 500Mbps Powerline Adapter.
- Steam Link is connected via ethernet using the other TP-LINK TL-PA4030KIT 500Mbps Powerline Adapter. (same as router)
- PC is also connected via ethernet using a Trendnet TPL-406E powerline adapter (different to the one plugged into router).

Does the different brand of powerline adapter make a difference? Both are advertised as 500mbps.

What needs upgrading? What is causing a bottleneck in the network transfer rate? Surely Steam Link doesn't need that much?

I've tried tweaking the settings in the Steam link but it hasn't helped.

Yea, it can. First thing I'd do is replace your 2nd powerline with another TP-Link. Then pair them up with the TP Link utility app.

But it's very difficult to give any easy advice here. Networks are so fiddly and unique.

That said, it's pretty much exactly my setup, except I've got a Virgin Superhub instead of a normal router(and my powerlines are only 200Mbs), but I'm hoping that isn't a huge issue since the Link will basically be plugged straight from the powerline.

I'll let you know how my experience goes once I get mine(hopefully tonight, but looking less likely now).

could a user explain something to me while i await mine!

so this link streams games at 1080p at 60fps. so say before i launch the game, the resolution is set to 1440p, what does the link do? does it change the option in the game settings or downscale the image?

or do i have to change the ingame settings when playing on the link to be 1080p, then change it back to 1440p when im at my desk?

hope this makes sense :D

So I guess I'm not getting my Link tonight despite it saying it's been out for delivery since this morning. Well that's my last 3 hours wasted just sitting here waiting for them to finally come when I needed to go to the store and wanted to put on my headphones to play a game for a while.
