Still Wakes The Deep (June 18th, UE5)

Interesting, I think they forgot something, I checked the directory after the patch and there's no dlssd.dll file indicating that Ray Reconstruction would not work even though the option to toggle is in the menu.

I then tested it:

It does nothing..... Which tracks since there's no RR dll file lol.

Verified also by the fact that the RT denoising garbling still exists which RR would have cleaned up and the fps remains exactly the same too.

Someone has messed up there.

Good detective work!

Game devs in 2024 eh, it's a wonder they can manage to put their shoes on I imagine.

I didn't see anything in the options for ray reconstruction.

I've completed it now and I really enjoyed it. I think it's a highly underrated game/experience and would make a good movie, helped by the fact I'm Glaswegian so I didn't need subtitles :D.

As far as replayability goes I don't think it has much, the same way that I wouldn't watch a movie for years after seeing it. I took around 6.5 hours to complete which is short for a game but there's no filler so it's only a slight negative.

Oh yea, I never want to work on an oil rig, ever!

I finished this yesterday evening and really enjoyed it. Brilliantly atmospheric, and great performances by the entire cast of voice actors. The scriptwriters deserve credit too, far too often it's painfully obvious when someone who isn't Scottish has written their interpretation of Scottish dialogue but here it felt genuinely authentic. Looked and ran great too which on my somewhat ageing system with a 3060Ti isn't necessarily something I take for granted any more. Really good sound design too. A really unique setting for a game too and I've been doing a bit of research and watching some vids about oil rigs since, the game represents them pretty well and they're staggeringly complex and frankly terrifying, even without the monsters.

As for the bizarre DEI remark earlier in the thread, I'm not sure how the presence of a woman and a black man on board an oil rig infested by some kind of alien lifeform is the most jarring part.

There's an achievement for playing it entirely in Gaelic, so there's some replayability right there :p

The opening scenes (in the canteen especially) had c40% black men in it. This game is set in 1975 on an oil rig in the North Sea off the Scottish coast. Do I really need to explain why that is "jarring"?
It's blatant DEI casting and it is simply unnecessary and ridiculous. The in your face social programming that's going on in all forms of entertainment is a disgrace and it tarnishes games for me. You'll learn soon enough.

Glad you enjoyed the game itself though.

I found it ok, nothing special. Gameplay is one step up from a walking simulator, but not much more. And if you're offended by crude language, stay away ( but what do you expect on a 1970's North Sea oil rig ? ;) )

I’ve fired it up. Can’t decide on settings. Not a fan of film grain, although maybe it works for a game like this?

Could imagine seeing this through to the end. At the very least I’m quite enjoying seeing what the UE5 engine brings.

I still need to play Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
That was the dullest thing i've ever tried and i didn't find the story that interesting either.

Came on here to ask if it's worth 20 quid but opinion seems to be mixed however i did not realise it was on gamepass so will get a month on there.

EDIT - do the normal Xbox gamepass codes from cdkeys etc work ok on the XBox PC app does anyone know or is it a different subscription?

I'd echo some of the reviews, it's a good story with a unique setting but it's short at around 6.5 hours, as linear as a ruler and offers little to no replayability.
This was my experience with the addition of the odd bug or two. Bumping up against insta-deaths was annoying in spots too.
