Stranger Things (Netflix)

Thought it was a good series but Dustin's talk with Eddie's uncle was ridiculously poorly written. D's taking about Eddie fighting for Hawkins and being a hero but none of that would've made any sense to the guy listening, who had no idea of Vecna, the UD, monsters, etc.
Usually the script writing is on point but that was surprisingly poor, IMO.

Dustin didn't mention anything about Vecna, Upside Down etc, he opened up with, "I was with him when the earthquake hit" and when asked where Eddie was now, Dustin handed him the chain inferring Eddie died in the earthquake. "He fought and died to protect the town" is as close as they got to mentioning monsters.

I think they should have resolved Eddies fate with the whole town though, as far as the town was concerned, Eddie is still seen as a murderer.

I thought Dustin and Lucas were great in the death scenes they had to deliver.

How so? For me it implied that he was fighting to help peoples lives when the earthquake hit. Dustin was telling the truth but the way he said it could imply he was doing "firefighting" hero stuff.

This will undoubtedly be sorted out in season 5 as now the gate has opened up there is absolutely no hiding what is going on.

Yes, I think that's @checjb point. It didn't really make sense to me (and part of this whole, 'you just have to accept things', like my earlier point about the music being a defence). If I'd lost a close family member in an earthquake and some kid is giving me back their jewellery, I'd have a lot of questions for him?! How is the body gone but he has his jewellery?!? What on earth does he mean 'he fought for this town' or he was a hero or whatever... in an earthquake?! As @checjb said, it wouldn't really make sense to the man...

I had to go back to watch the Metallica scene. One of the best moments on tv in sometime for me. Midnight/lights off/sound cranked up. Just epic. Season 4 has raised the bar so so high.

I said same to my missus when we watched it. Zero context to anything. If Dustin had said that to me I'd be like "what do you mean hero? He pulled people out of rubble or what?"

Just seemed dumb.

Let's not forget the whole gang had been deemed a cult that sacrificed people yet were happily mooching about the community centre without any police questioning about why max had screwed up eyeballs and snapped limbs.

2 days had passed, perfectly possible they'd already been questioned. And no the whole gang hadn't been deemed a cult that sacrificed people, that's just what whackjobs believed.

Episode 8 was great and I managed it in one sitting. Had to take a couple of breaks in the finale. Gutted for Eddie. A great character and captured the look of the 80s semi rebellious teenager perfectly. Max's death scene with Lucas was amazingly done.....right until she survives.
I loved the parallel story happening in Russia, despite all the implausibilities. Joyce and Hopper reunion was great but Murray steals the show. Hopefully he'll be back in the final season. I think the Will Byers "is he isn't he Gay" storyline felt a bit shoehorned on to be honest and doesn't add much overall.

Overall as good as part 1 of season 4 in my opinion but the finale wasn't as good as the build up to it. I think the length is to blame. Part 2 could easily have been made Into 4 episodes instead of 2. But still the best season of Stranger Things so far, purely for the amount

Hopefully we don't have to wait too long for the final season and it's shown in a single part with reasonably sized episodes. Halloween 2023 would be ideal.

Agreed for the most part.

I can't see how they'd leave it so long as the massive portal is open, they can't wait 3/4 years before concluding the story. Next season pretty much needs to continue right off from where this one ended surely.

Agree. I read about folks saying the conversation was handled well but I thought the 'fighting for the town' made no sense to someone who has assumed the town was hit by a quake.

There was literally a news reader on a scene minutes earlier saying that Eddie was leader of a gang suspected of human sacrifice. Pretty sure it was when the group first arrived back and there was the usual TV vans etc about.

But either way the show was great but did have annoyances like I mentioned. How slowly Steve and the rest moved through vecnas house was a particular one.

It's like they were happy to spend hours having people wander about without any sense or urgency, but couldn't find time to give their best characters death a properly written send off to the one person on the planet who actually cared about him.

As I said, have you ever seen American news? They are the whackjobs.

Yeah that decision confused me, I dont really understand why Part 2 had to be just 2 episodes, as you say it could easily have been split into 4 or 5 episodes

I got around to watching it last night and said exactly the same thing about the last episode. It was a bit predictable in places, but I'm not sure where else they could have gone with it and there were various natural breaks they could have used to chop it up into a few episodes. Overall, it was a good season though and a very enjoyable watch. Definitely better than 2 and 3! Apparently 2024 for season 5.

I disagree. A 'whackjob' is someone saying the world is flat. Their reporting might not always be great, but I don't believe they're whackjobs. If you can show me them claiming the world is flat on even just one US news channel, I might consider your opinion :)

Did you see what happened on Jan 6th? Partly helped due to the support of fox, breitbart, news max, the other looney stations they now have.
