Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

I nicked loads of points off OMH the last time we met in ranked. :D

Goso - Artheas might have some tips for you, he was decent with Gief.

hi friends,

i started playing zangief on sff4 about a week ago. i am having lots of trouble with being zoned out, i would say on the most part due to my horrible execution with green glove & my lack of knowledge for other chars.
i also have trouble with whiff punishing with SPD which is demoralising, i'm consistent doing 360 notation throws from ground, empty jumps. the problem seems to lie when whiff punishing.

any tips/help?
thank you in advance kind sirs

Doing an SPD on a whiffed normal is extremely hard.. probably the most advanced technique there is to learn.. I would say it lies mainly on reactions and reading your opponent. If you see patterns emerging on how they use their normals you can predict it's coming, making it a lot easier. As for being zoned out - I am not a gief player, but slowly walking them to corner, willing to take hits (Due to his massive life) is the best thing to do. Once cornered any character is in trouble against the Russian.

EDIT: Also I am surprised you even know of these terms if you have only been playing a week.

Rob if I remember correctly our match was super close haha, was only one hit in it!

Yup - one hit away from bragging rights :p
Might have to rematch you before I put Chun to bed. Shes getting close to useless :(

GGS tonight Distorted. Really have no idea why I suffer from lag in long sets, had zero computers on and i turn the WiFi off when I game.

I have played longer than a week, but im very much a novice :D

I like the challenge of being zoned out, but not when someone is clearly 100 times better than myself.

i feel i know what to do, but maybe taking on alittle too much to early, but the only way to get better is to keep playing ^^.

do you guys tend to do shoryuken notation df,df or the "proper" way? since i started using an arcade stick i do df,df but on pad i did it the other way.

I usually use shortcut notation for anti airs atleast as it keeps Ryu's hitbox low and reduces the chance of trading

dont get used to the shortcut. its bad in the long run, this shortcut only exist in sf4 and sfxt. but then again, they are making the execution of the new fighting games so lax and easy soon they will have an auto win button, whoever press it first wins. when i used to play this game, i only use it for auto-correct dp.

This is true but also short sighted in some respects. shortcuts make things easier and also "improve" the outcomes of moves i.e. my anti air example above and also auto correcting.

A good example of an auto correct situation would be getting hit by seth's toe tap reset. If you've got two bars you can pretty much escape the mixup by riding the corners of the gate (df,db,df,db) to get the game to uppercut in the right direction for you. If you've got two bars you can then FADC to make the situation safe.

If it makes it easier for you, then use it. Practicing execution takes a lot of time which is frustrating at first so find as many ways as you can to make it easier for you.

yeah toryuken had some good fights & players from what i seen on the stream! tekken 6 on it tomorrow which i'm excited about :D
