Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

I want to main Ken but people on the net are saying he's terrible!

He really isn't, depends how you play him. His pokes aren't the best but he has great meterless damage potential, and can be really good at pressure. Also hio walkspeed is decent too so footsie games (when you're at that level) is good with Ken. His combos are really good and pretty safe when you master them and he has good mixups too

I'll be using Ken as a main

I really need to practice, like, a lot. Probably winning every 1/10 games so far on casual multiplayer. My main is Ryu so I'm going to try to master all of his moves.

The game is far simpler than IV, you can learn all the moves and combos yourself and the tutorial covers the systems.

Note that everyone was "good" offline, and often get upset at getting spanked online when they realise they're not anywhere near as good as they thought they were.

This happened to me with Halo, and so many people on here thought they were good at Mario Kart but they didn't even know what snaking was!

Then Nintendo removed it :(

Most arcade sticks will work on PC. ebay will most likely have a tone of Madcatz TEs (and TE Round 2) you could buy. They are out and out my favourite stick.
PS4 - The Venom is the best value atm. Although I would change the stick itself.

Prima has an official guide ($10). But if you give it a week then Youtube will be filled with tips, combos and training ideas. Or you could sit in training mode and come up with some stuff yourself :p

I'd just use a pad for SFV. There are no complicated combos or techniques any more so no need for a stick.

Thanks for the replies.

I will be getting it on ps4 and was looking at the venom. People say that's its easy to mod later if needed and works out cheaper than the madcatz top end stick.

I played the beta with the pad and while it was easier than SF4 to execute different moves I would miss a lot of the moves I wanted to do. I have a feeling this would not be such an issue with a stick.

I may try the guide then and combine that with youtube. I just didn't want to go paying for a stick if it would be a waste of time/no better than the pad.

I know its a totally different game to SF2 so I'll need to completely change my style etc (even from SF4) which is hard sometimes as your muscle memory kicks in and you find yourself doing things that don't work in SF4/5. I need to totally start fresh I think.

Really want to get back into SF as I spent many hours every day in my local arcade and it was near to a university and I would get all the Japanese/Chinese students coming into to play me (and my mates). They would take you on as a group generally swapping with each other after bad rounds etc. It was a lot of fun.

Some of the guys that used to come in knew how to reset the machine or glitch guile/zangief so the characters just stayed in the same frame and were invincible (they couldn't fight though and had to do this when they were in front so the timer ran down causing them to win). They'd only did this after a few losses though and usually got a month ban for it lol.

This makes me feel better. TBH, I don't think I'll ever be at the level where it really matters who I place as but it's good to know.

I seem to be doing okay with him anyway.

Still debating whether to get a fightpad or to just stick with the DS4 for now.

Bought a PS4 this weekend anticipating some SFV love. Pre-ordered on Amazon (student Prime)... but still not here!

Got a pre-order code for a Cammy costume, though apparently limited to first 18000 pre-orders. I imagine it won't work by the time I get a game.

Really was hoping for a 10am delivery - wife is at work all day. Instead, I'm left with the marking pile :(

Regarding Ken - saw a video from Reddit (it's on YouTube) that suggests Ken needs to be played a bit further back than in previous games. Something like 'Ken the Howitzer' IIRC.

No idea if it's any good. I'm below average at best at Street Fighter and I've not so much as played a round of the beta!

Well my fingers are battered so I don't think I'll be using my fight stick, I'll give the DS4 a try on the PC and see how I get on.

I'm coning in late to the party, i'll be online from about 8pm to 9pm depending on housework :/

I'm be maining Chun-Li as per usual, i already have a good feel for her (oh err misses!!) in the Beta and i liked the move set. I'll be on it every night for a few weeks to beat on the newbies before they get better and get some quick fight money :D

Cammy's alt is sick! by far my favourite from all of hers through SF4.

I've never really played as Cammy. To be honest, aside from some daft fights with my bro as Hugo, Zangief, Alex, I've been a shoto player pretty consistently. Only really ever played online as Ryu too.

I'm intent on trying lots of the cast this time around though. Playing SF3 recently has opened up my player choices because there are so few shoto characters to lean on.

Still not a big charge fan though!

Didn't work at all in the Beta, wondering if they fixed it.

No, but 30 seconds in JoyToKey will have it working easily. It's what I do.

Unable to find a game past 30mins, this is pants. The game itself, well it hasn't drawn me in like SF4 did. It's not as exciting.

SFIV isn't exactly exciting, but I agree this is a bit crap.

Can someon explain how I would go about fighting a friend online. I've added him to my favorites in the CFN but can't find anyway of choosing to fight a friend ?

I only messed about with it for an hour last night, but I disagree. You can immediately tell that mindless play or autopilot is not going to work as much, if you don't think about what you are doing then you will get hurt.

What about the game do you guys find boring/crap?

Relies a lot on pokes and normals. Also mashing jab stuffs anything, there's no wake up game either. I like how DP mashers get punished now though :p
