Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

I have been playing Cammy, I thought her moves looked fun.

I've just read that it may be a good idea to start with Ryu as he's a 'basic' character. I suppose I could give that a go.

I've been in training mode and struggling with some of the moves, for instance the Z movement, cant workthat out. I can do the fireball move (quarter circle down) no problem but have yet to work out how to trigger the special which is, quarter circle, quarter circle and Kick (or punch). Maybe I'm not doing it quick enough or something but it's annoying!

Exaggerate the motion so instead of doing quarter circle do a motion that is a larger range of motion i.e. instead of 45 degrees (quarter circle) do 55 degrees (extra 5 degrees on each side)

doesn't that just make you jump?

I'm using a stick, for the secinf part is it best just to let the stick recentre itself before doing the 2nd part or return to center yourself, how quick do you really have to be?

Try this: once you've done the first quarter circle run the stick back the same way you came and then do the second quarter circle. You need to be quick though.

Tried survival mode on hard and lost on fight 37. It's harder but randomly hard.
Most fights - Super easy.
Then I'll fight someone who will take off half my health with one combo and I'll scrape through.
Next fight - super easy

Played some online as well. Managed to rank up to Bronze. Was fine against everyone except for one guy who schooled me with Nash. I'm still a bit rubbish though against someone who blocks or has good anti airs, haha. I'm only really using Kens BnB combos at the moment so need to expand on that.

I'm really enjoying the game though.

I'm probably going to pick this up in March when more content arrives. With SFIV I only started taking it 'seriously' during AE and by then all the guys on here were lightyears ahead of me. Be nice to get some games in with other new people hopefully and not just the killers, makes leveling up a little more enjoyable.

Cammy is fun, but she isn't as beginner friendly as the rest IMO.

Z movement, you can do: down-forward down-back down-forward. Which is pretty good if you are crouching. as you keep your hit box low.

Critical Art is QCF QCF Kick. As Elrasho said make sure you complete the motions other wise you stand a high chance of getting cannon spike.

We all killers up in here bro

Well despite all of the server issues, I'm really enjoying this. I've not really played any Street Fighter since the SNES / Megadrive versions other than the odd go on Street Fighter Alpha on the original Playstation (is that game really almost 20 years old?!?!).

Disappointed that Sagat isn't in there as my old fighter of choice but I'm happy that I can still hit the dragon punches, hurricane kicks etc with Ken and Ryu.

I've had to look that up, last time I played any Street Fighter was almost 20 years ago! Hopefully I can blow some of the cobwebs away and compete with you youngsters.

Cheers, so what would you recommend as a beginner character?

I'd say Ryu and Karin are quite nice places to start.

If anyone is looking for the basics of SFV then Gootecks covers it quite well in these tutorial vids:

Just fought against a Ryu who stood at the back of the map and just spammed fireballs I couldn't get near him :( when I did he'd just counter was pretty effective

the servers are being shocking today, for me at least. Ages to find games, disconnects, excessive loading (which I assume is the game pinging the servers) and can't even stay connected to my own battle lounge.

Can't wait for this to be up and running as it should be, really enjoying figuring out the character changes and matchups.

Ok so I'm better than I thought on a pad, but one thing I haven't worked out yet is when the best time to use Kens V-trigger and how to make the most of it,any tips?

I think I have both! But reading some articles on the web claim that there are issues with certain sticks? Or ar theses refering to PS3/PS4?

If your stick works on the pc then you can map the inputs to the right keyboard keys. Bingo, 100 percent compatibility.
