STS-135 - The Final Space Shuttle Mission

Many thanks to Simulatorman for keeping us all up to date with the many launches he has covered.

Thanks buddy for the effort you have put into every mission thread :)

To board an aircraft, fly up and leave the Earth, dock with a 'building' in space, fly a few times round the world and land safely again in the same aircraft is such an amazing feat of engineering. Awesome, just awesome!!!!!

Yep.

Its a shame that following this, as we progress, we will now send our astronautics into space using disposable rockets designed in the 60's.

Here Here!!

I agree, without the updates he provides I think most of us would have missed some of the launches! And providing day by day accounts of each mission I would like to thank Simulatorman as well!

I know who my vote for MoH 2011 would go to!

Is it me of is the NASA HD stream not very HD today ?

With it still being dark it's as good as you can get:

Just a quick question why did they go for the 10:56 landing instead of the 12:?? one? I would have thought given the opportunity they would want to have good visuals on the vehicle?

Helps with cooling the shuttle at that time of the morning, rather than landing in the mid day sun, that's what the commentator said anyway.

I'd rather see Discovery to be honest, Discovery was the best shuttle.:D

Enterprise was the best shuttle. That it never actually went in to space is neither here now there :p Shame they scrubbed plans to retro fit it to see active service.

THEN Discovery.

While It's sad to see the Shuttle go, it won't be long before the US will be going back up without the Russians help. And the vehicle they use will no doubt be more efficient, safer, cheaper and as a result more commercial than the original Constellation programme.

125,935,769 miles estimated on that thing. Could probably get that many miles on my car if I had that kind of budget, but it would be horrible at docking with the ISS or assisting in repairs of the HST.

So long, Atlantis. *sniff*
