stupid question?

Well..... the new case didn't arrive :( Now expected next week... In the meantime i've put the new fans in the Icute case and temps are another 10C lower at load according to OCCT :) winner!

45C load at stock...

65C load @ 425x8

Evening, got the new case today...

Will post some pictures soon.

In the meantime i clocked it back to 425x8 and the load temps were 60C compared to 72C in the old case...

Very happy with that and that's with only 1 front fan working (the other one's cable wasn't long enough so getting an extension tomorrow)

looks like we're back in business :)

In your absence I decided to try running it back to 400 x 9 = 3.6GHz

ran OCCT for 30 mins... no crash and it peaked at 66C however with Prime95 worker 3 stopped in less that a minute saying rounding was '0.5 expected 0.4'

Load vcore was 1.51v

Edit: upped the vcore to 1.53 - same error - temps at 71C though...

Have you tried it with [Auto] Northbridge?

On manual you can blast it up to 1.5vNB if the heatsink doesn't get too hot!

P.S can you include more info with your posts as I'm not sure what speed, FSB etc your running at . . .

We should have started at 3.4GHz Prime Stable really before pushing to 3.6GHz . . .

377x9

425x8

Do they both fail prime or?

yeah... sorry... got a little bit carried away and just went for it lol!

377x9 ran stable with 1.49V and 1.41v VNB 1:1

will try 425x8 now

Give that one to eight hours running Smalls, that will tell us if the CPU is roughly stable at the current volts and temps. If that passes then try Prime Blend which will put the hurting more on the NB and memory, again one to eight hours.

Don't bother posting anymore screenshots under one hour, the money ££ shot is generally eight hours. In this situation its different but once you are let loose on the open forums people will grumble heh! :p

If that last screenshot (3.4GHz/425x8) proves to be stable under prime Smalls & Blend then the next step (3.6GHz/9x400) will only be stopped by lack of vCore/Heat . . . . your hitting 75°C now?

Have you redone your heatsink with fresh paste yet?

yeah i know 20 minutes of prime doesn't mean a lot... it was more to give you an idea of the voltages/speeds i'm running and the fact that it didn't fail in less that 30 seconds lol!

I've re-set the heatsink, new paste etc.

temps are high but i am only running one intake fan atm as the other's lead isn't long enough to reach the mobo (getting an extension tomorrow) i could probably reduce the voltage... i originally had it at about 1.47. not sure why it's now at 1.52!!! i may have set it too high by accident in the bios.

Shall i try reducing the voltage now until can get this stable at the lowest voltage?

Well If its running then I would leave it, we need to know if there is stability yet, if it proves stable under both Prime Smalls and Blend then we can progress by either reducing the vCore to see what 3.4GHs actually needs or start pushing the CPU frequency more . . .

[edit]

When you get a few mins spare have a watch of this video, it's a different CPU and platform to what you are using but I wanted you to see the importance of cooling a processor, also to see a bunch of geeks getting paid top $$$$ to overclock an AMD processor, load temps are approx -230°C :p

That could be you in about 4 years! ;)

That's an insane overclock! and here i am having difficulty with humble old air! :D

left small FFTs to run for about 9 hours today at the settings in the screeny above. absolutely no errors whatsoever although temps did reach around 79C (still, wouldn't even have been possible in my old case)

Vcore load fluctuated between 1.51v and 1.53v

Then ran blend for 3.5 hours. Again, no errors and temps were slightly lower.

think i can safely say it's stable if slightly hot...

are we ready to push on? it all seems nail-bitingly close!!

Did Big.Wayne neglect to tell you about the 10 L of liquid Nitrogen and 500 L of liquid helium that you would need to purchase for the final stages of your clock? ;)

Looking good guys!

LMAO! but a tuniq tower works just as well right???
