Stupid Yapping Dog

I feel like a mug just walking over and complaining about their dog, especially being 19.. Maybe in 50 years time..

Might just slip a shock collar through their letterbox and let them take the hint.

i feel your pain matey, next door has a dog, a little yappy thing, it doesn't bark as much as the one near you but when it does....say when charity bags get put through the door it doesn't stop for hours (if owner is out)

I say regardless of age go over and calmly tell the owners the dog is driving you up the wall and that you kindly as for them to pay more attention if they refuse or slack I guess call in pest control ;)

This^^.

I can sympathise with the OP. About a year ago a neighbour 2 doors along from us had a "yappy" dog. In fact it made more of a repetitive series of loud "squeaks" and "squeal" rather than a yap of any sort. I'm a very tolerant person as well as being an animal lover but in a similar fashion to the OP, the issue was not 100% the dog but more of the owners not having consideration for neighbours. The owner was a postman who started work early in the morning. Dog would be put out in the back garden at @ 4.00am and immediately begin squeaking and yapping loudly. Owner then went off to work and the noise continued until his wife brought the dog back inside just before she left for work at 8.30am. This happened every weekday for months the only respite being the weekends although relaxing summer Sunday afternoons in our garden were ruined by the noise also. At one point eventually when I decided I had to say something about it, I politely spoke to the woman one afternoon as she was in her front garden only to met with a tirade of verbal abuse. It was at this point I realised that both the owners were far from being the sharpest tools in the box so to speak. Rather than get involved in any sort of confrontation ( been living in my current house for 7 years with not a hint of trouble with neighbours and wasn't about to start having any ) I withdrew and decided to get in touch via a complaint to my local councils Environmental Protection Unit.

In cases where barking dogs are causing the noise nuisance, the Environmental Protection Unit will write to the owner of the dog advising that a complaint has been made and providing information on practical steps that can be taken to prevent excessive barking. The complainant will be sent details of how to apply to the District Court under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 for an Order to prevent the noise, should the barking continue.

After a written complaint was sent to them, I received a follow up letter the next week stating that they had been in contact with the owners to try and advise them of the complaint and steps they could take to minimise disruption to neighbours. The council also visited my house to see for themselves what the noise levels were for their own confirmation. I heard a few days later from the neighbour next door that she had been the at home in the garden one day when council officials had visited the owners and not surprisingly had also been met with lots of verbal abuse ( reinforcing my aforementioned "sharpest tools" adage  ). My neighbour had also sent a letter of complaint as had the neighbours on the other side of the dog owners fence who had a newborn baby.

Anyhow, after that week, the noise carried on and I began to wonder what on earth we could possibly do at this stage. Then a few weeks later, the noise stopped. The dog vanished. Peace and quiet returned. Result.

I should send my Maine **** round there. It would destroy it. :D

LOL..... :p

Man up, be independent and go around and see the owner about it instead of asking an internet forum.

But let's be honest, you're probabaly going to do nothing about it.

Speak to them first, they most likely won't do anything, ask nicely again, if you still get no results then buy a massive hifi and blast some NWA and DrDre out for 5 days non stop.

If you can make more noise than them, you win even if you have to wear ear plugs for a few days.

But don't hurt the dog! It is probably barking because the owners are idiots that don't look after it properly.

Anyone have experience with this kind of issue?

I had it for 14 years with a proper bark and he could go on for 4 days non stop - I kid you not.
We (the street) called various places over the last 14 years but nothing ever happened.
Even the RSPCA weren't bothered when he was left in the back garden for 4 days and he never took a break from barking about 1 every 3 seconds.
His mummy & daddy have been evicted from the house so he's gone too :)

Give me your address and I will station my pair of jack russells outside your house and (try to) train them to bark in such a way as to create anti-noise like noise cancelling headphones. With luck you will hear perfect silence.

Ummm Kill it with fire? Nah I'm an animal over myself and know how irritating those dogs can be. What we need is some kind of shock collar, for the owners! Every time the dog yaps they get a zap! Problem solved.

Yep, you definitely need some Jack Russells to deal with this. Jack Russells.

My next door neighbour has 3 huskys. They are fine when she is about, but when she goes to work at 7 in the morning during the week, they go mental and start yelping like someone is killing a baby.

I still havent got round to having a moan about it, and I guess there will be bugger all she can do about it either. Im a fan of dogs, but if they are going to make horrible noises early in the mornings, they are going to quickly get on my bad side.
