Stuttering 6XX and in what games?

What have you done pgi? Did you send yours back?

I managed to sell it on the MM for the price I payed for it, as the card was one of the highest clocking 670's (~1370/7500). Figured I'd give someone the chance to buy a proven clocker, avoiding the lottery. Loved the card, its performance was outstanding, but as I said earlier NV's eta of a fix has been a little vague for me so cut my losses to go back to a 7970, will be looking at Nvidia again when we see GK110, only this time I won't be an early adopter.

Ok, list updated. What we have learned so far is:

301.42 have helped some with the stutter.
Turn off all V-Sync options have helped but can lead to the other problem of tearing.
Returning to the original drivers that came with the card have also helped.

Also what is strange is some get stuttering in a particular game, whilst others don't. The core clock dropping on certain cards maybe part of the problem?

Thanks to the guys who have posted and I look forward to more posters with feedback.

On the clock dropping subject, I noticed the clocks were allot lower whilst the cards were overclocked, example in Fifa12, stock clocks it would usually stay at 980mhz, while overclocked it would start at 384mhz and jump to 710mhz then back down then up to 900mhz and so on. The stutter did occur in both situations though.

Strange. I've not noticed this stutter on my 670 TOP with the newest or previous driver. This is coming from someone whose eyes are bothered by video-pulldown jitter.

I only seem to get stutter in Diablo III. It's very intermittent but I seem to be able to provoke a bout of it, for example it doesn't seem to like drawing the Town Portal animation at all and will stutter like crazy.

Rest of games i've played are all fine, things like Source engine, Dawn of War II, World of Tanks, World of Warcraft, and Company of Heroes. It only seems to be Diablo III. :(

Tried with both 301.10 and 301.42 - same thing happens.

If somebody could video this stutter problem, that would be great. I am not sure if Fraps would pick it up or not but a YouTube vid showing stuttering didn't actually show much.

Update on world of tanks.

I do get stutter at times. Checking usage and it shows the card at 60% usage with clocks varing from 600-1000 core which probably explains the stuttering. FPS drops to around 50-60 compared to the normal 80+ I get.

Given the issue is to do with vsync and GPU clock states and transitions I would be astounded if it can't be fixed with drivers or absolute worst case a bios update.

Personally I hardly suffer from it if at all, playing Alan wake very rarely, say once in 5 minutes play I see it tank to 0 fps for say 2 seconds. I can't really remember but I think probably every card I've owned has had the odd quirk like this.

Happens to me on a 120hz monitor if that helps. It seems to happen more with games that have an engine based frame limit. For example fifa12 and Batman AC will both cap at 60fps regardless of v-sync setting.

try the refresh override in games that are locked to 60fps/Hz set it to highest available

i used that on FIFA 11 and 12 and it runs at 120 now

wont work with Diablo 3 for some reason when i set to highest available it wont stick just reverts back to app controlled even with NVI

In skyrim, disabling driver level SSAO and installing the newest ENB unreal cinema (with SSAO) seems to have cured most stuttering for me, albeit at the cost of about 15 fps.

Thought I'd post a quick update.

I had a 670 and was getting stuttering with FIFA during gameplay and also a very bad slo-mo effect when playing Batman AC in the steel mill, whilst walking past machinery giving off sparks, and also some general stutter. Another member reported the same issue with Batman, but I think moving to the 301.42 drivers solved it for him.

In the end I decided to RMA and go for a 7970 instead. FIFA now runs perfectly so appears to be a 670 (driver) issue but Batman AC still chokes at exactly the same points, so in my case at least would appear to have been a 'false positive'.
