Football's world governing body has opened disciplinary proceedings against Uruguay striker Luis Suarez after he appeared to bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match.

The Liverpool forward, 27, and the Uruguayan Football Association have until 17:00 Brazilian time (21:00 BST) on Wednesday to respond to Fifa.

No hanging about.

Did Roy Keane not break Haalands leg three times in three years?

As far as I am aware he only didn't break it the once.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Keane didn't get the chance to because it ended his career mate. It finished Haaland as a professional footballer...you can't compare a tackle like that to what Suarez did.

PS unless you're being sarcastic...which I hope you are.

It didn't actually, an injury to his knee on the other leg ended his career.

Eh, it made the front page from CNN, New York Times, LA Times, South China Post, BBC, Reuters and so forth...

I say the rest of the world sees it that way as well.

This is the problem for FIFA, it's happened at their flagship tournament, and it's been broadcasted around the world to billions, as well as being reported in print and digital media world wide.

Suarez, quite simply, is ****** and is going to get the book thrown at him.

I think we have to sell him now really, enough is enough. Of all the things to do , to bite..yet again. He's a supreme talent but really we need a season ahead with as few chains around our necks and this bite will be a huge chain throughout the season. Liverpool just don't need repeated controversy with the season coming, being as tough as it already will be.

We need to sell him now, take a dollop of money and alexis sanchez from barca and be done with it.

I hear that Liverpool are having a meeting today to discuss the Suarez situation, I'm hoping for a proactive outcome from that.

hahaha - this just popped up on my twitter feed :D

Why are you making up complete nonsense?

Whilst I support Liverpool I can't see how any one can even try defend it? We were lucky his punishment before was only 10 games really bearing in mind was 2nd time, for me he clearly hasn't learnt and since football is his passion unless it's a massive ban e.g season ban including Europe I doubt he will learn and it's a shame cause playing wise he is one of best strikers I have ever seen :/ what makes it worse is Rodgers worked his ass off to try resolve all his misdemeanours and during season seemed to just get his head down and crack on and goes and does this :(

Better idea, rather than ban him just get every footballer to put a restraining order on him so that he cant get within 50 m of a football ground :p

You wouldn't need to get all players to do that, just get a restraining order on his stating he's not allowed within 'x' distance of any football ground!

I am still laughing at the statement he released saying he got hit in the eye

because of course we all fall to the ground holding our teeth when we have been hit in the face

I dont know whats worse the offence in the first place or the pathetic attempt to pretend something else happened and then release a press statement claiming things that are blatant lies.

he did the exact same thing last time..bit the player then feigned injury...he's as low as a snakes rectum

FIFA have had a hearing about the Suarez bite incident and they have awarded it to Qatar.

Is that the gold replica of his teeth?

I hear that that the new golden tooth award will be given out annually at the player awards for services beyond and above call of duty on the field.

It does make you wonder how stupid some of the these players are. They do understand that these matches are televised and that every moment is caught by multiple cameras at different angles right?

It is so obvious he bit the guy yet Suarez is still trying to save face by saying he didn't and that he got hit in the eye? ITS ON VIDEO YOU ****

I think he needs to be banned from international football for 2 years, with at least a 6 month ban on any football anywhere. What he's done is a disgrace and he should be punished as severely as possible.

Even as an Evertonian I feel sorry for Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers here. They stuck their neck out for him a year ago, and have tried their best to support him as much as possible, and now he goes and does something like this. I hope Liverpool do the right thing and come out and condemn his actions, as I think even silence from them isn't enough. As a club with massive support, they need to send out the message that this kind of behavior is inexcusable.
