Awesome news!!!! Has made me east my words in wanting him gone this ummer, but dayum

But he wasnt going to sign according to other knowledgable posters.

If he's intent on leaving then he wouldn't have signed a new contract.

The same posters who said we should have accepted Arsenals first offer of £35m because that's a fair value and he won't try if he's forced to stay? ;)

Looks like Rodgers promised Suarez a right good ole bumming if he signed a new contract:p.

Still think he will be off when Liverpool fail to get CL or win any trophies this season.

I havent seen certain Arsenalites post about him and the contract talks but I remember he wasnt worth the 40 mill they offered and no one would ever pay more than that - I'm glad we didnt get 55 for him like I thought we should accept :o

Don't think he'll leave tbh, he's become their highest played player and he'll be expensive.

Not sure, if a team like Real, PSG or another big money team come in with a big enough offer...his head could very well be turned. Guess its all dependant on how well Liverpool do this year regarding the PL title and their CL hopes for next season.

Getting him to sign a long term deal just means that Liverpool will get a bigger pay off if he decides to leave IMHO.

Been in great form of late and if he can keep his nose clean hes an incredible talent that will become a major part of our push for the champions league.

So basically Liverpool have done all they can by giving him a new contract with huge pay rise in hopes that he wont go in summer.

It's pretty much the best thing the club can do. I'm glad he signed so quickly, but I don't take anything he says as truth. I still believe that if Madrid or Barca come in with a £60+ million bid in the summer, he'll be off.

....Or Liverpool just say no to any bids?

He still had 3 years + on his old contract, Really dont think the new one will mean a greater transfer value.

We just have to deliver on the pitch now, we get CL next season and he'll stay.

He only had 2.5 years on his old deal. There's no doubt that part of the reason for the new contract is to protect his transfer value though.

There's very possible clauses in the deal that will also protect Suarez should we not make the CL but I suspect they'll be a lot more than £40m and specifically rule out PL clubs though.

The oriignal one ran to 2016 didnt it, (the one when he 1st signed) but then he signed a new one to boost his wages, didnt that extend it by 1 or 2 years?

Regardless, great news. Chuffed.

Great deal, do people really think he won't have a clause to get out though after last summer. Get real, he will have something in place allowing him to leave if they are not in the champions league.

It'll still take big money though danny and almost certainly exclude PL sides.

As I said above, if he was intent on leaving then he wouldn't have signed. The fact that he has shows he's committed to staying, providing we make the CL.

I don't think so, I think it was literally just a pay increase. So this deal should bring him up to atleast 6 and a half more years you would image, when he will be 34 years of age!

My reaction to the news;

Equally do people really think Liverpool won't have covered themselves for this eventuality in terms of making sure that the conditions of such an exit would be moderately favourable? Both parties will have thrashed out something that will avoid a repeat of the £40,000,001 fiasco last summer (which I don't think suited anyone, Arsenal included) and I think Liverpool have been very shrewd in tying this up before the Window opens in a couple of weeks.
