Suarez signs new contract

It'll have something in it saying that if we don't get CL this season and a CL club comes in with a bid over £x million, it'll be accepted. That's a lot of "ifs" though.

There's a long way to go this season, but at the moment we're looking good for the top 4. I also can't see who would spend £60m plus on him. Would Real really spend that big again? I'm not sure Barca would have him as they have Neymar and Messi who are not dissimilar. The only other club which is "big" enough for him is Munich, and they've never been huge spenders.

Best player on the planet right now?

Wonder if Real can afford him after just buying Bale? Where else can he go? Barcelona? Bayern? PSG?

Bayern would seem the most suitable option as they are desperate for a new striker.

Suarez and Lewandowski just wouldn't be fair.

Then you have Robben and Ribery pulling the strings... not to forget the cavalry they have behind them and on the bench. That is all Bayern are missing right now, a 20-30 goal a season striker... and in Luis's case, a 40-50 goal a season striker.

Aren't LP linked with Diego Costa? They could buy him with the Suarez funds and still have stacks of cash left.

So basically Liverpool have done all they can by giving him a new contract with huge pay rise in hopes that he wont go in summer.

It's pretty much the best thing the club can do. I'm glad he signed so quickly, but I don't take anything he says as truth. I still believe that if Madrid or Barca come in with a £60+ million bid in the summer, he'll be off.

60m? more liek 120m.

Arsenal could bid 60m as i said but many said that aint enough before he signed the contract.

IF there's a release clause then no doubt it will be something crazy like £60 million if Liverpool aren't in the CL that season and even then not to a PL club and only grants permission to talk to, not automatically accepted. If they are in the CL then the clause will likely be £80million+ and again not to a PL club and not accepted automatically. The contract probably forbids Suarez's agent from communicating the release clause to anyone as well.

either it is a stupid move from suarez if he intended to leave any time soon. i would have at least waited till end of the season to see where liverpool finish and who is interested in my signature.

I'd be very surprised if, after what went on this summer, that any clause (if we aren't to make the CL) isn't a firm buyout clause.

As for his agent not disclosing info about these clauses, that goes without saying and is the case with every contract in the Premier League, however it's nigh on impossible to prove unless, like Arsenal did, the buying club take the ****.

If, for arguments sake, the clause was £80m and Real, knowing this, opened the bidding at £65m and then increased their offer in £5m increments, how can you prove they knew about the £80m?

I think 'secret' buyout clauses are stupid anyway as game theory dictates that if the buying club doesn't know what the target is they should just make small incremental bids starting at a fairly low value until they hit the limit of what they are prepared to pay. Making large increases in bids is risky because there is much more chance of 'overshooting' the target by a large amount.

Such a scenario is a waste of everyone's time i.e. the 'overhead' of having a greater volume of bids to process so it is probably just as well that these clauses get leaked. Obviously you'll still see bids coming in below the release clause (chancing their arm) but not to the same extent.
