Subnautica

I've not (so far) found the predators too much of a challenge - they only seem to be a threat if you stay still or back yourself into a corner :s ironically its the static hazards that have killed me the most.

Do not try parking your Seamoth on the shoreline while you explore!
I came back to find all I can see is the aerial on top as it has sunk into the sand!
Not recoverable.

I then tried parking the Seamoth on the sandbank at left rear of Aurora while i went to salvage plans for the sub on the other side.
On my way back I could still see the Seamoth icon and thought great all's ok only to find when i got there that the Seamoth was 78 metres under the sandbank!

It is also possible to build a base directly under the entrance to the lava castle without suffering any damage from the local denizens.
There is enough room on the flat on the bottom to build the general purpose room and a moon pool.
Sprung a leak once before I got enough reinforcement panels fitted but otherwise safe and useful for farming.

I went the route of mobile base in my sub carrying all mats with me everywhere.
Increases the pucker factor when you are at danger of losing all your mats as you navigate the lost river and on down to the lava zone.

I blame you all btw for singing the praises of this game and causing me to take advantage of the free offer wasting hours and hours of my life away...
Disappointed when I finished it to be honest I wanted it to last longer.

But brilliant game I would never have tried without the free offer.

Gonna take me awhile I think to get to the end of the story - put 11 hours in so far and mostly still around the shallows and the odd deep dive - not even gone to the Aurora yet (though I've done quite a bit on/around the first two islands).

It took me 55hours (and I loved every minute of it). But from what I've read, that's higher than average. I reckon it can be completed in around 15-20 if you know what you're doing on a 2nd playthrough.

Hmm reading some of you guys play time I'm thinking I taking it way to slow. I done 33 hours so far but since not watched anyone playing not quiet sure where in the story line I am really. Discovered some life pods, been to Aurora and 2 islands (no clue if there is more then 2 though.) Then again I am driving back and forth rather often. Built on main base so far and 2 1/2 smaller ones. (the 1/2 is for a 4 connect pipe and one scanner room on one of the islands), then 2 little larger ones with "parking space" for my speedy boat. :p

I do have a question though. Just found the stuff to make Aerogel so I can now make my Prawn Suit, but if I understand it right the suit is rather cumbersome to get around in ? Should I wait to build it or built it where I be maybe needing it most for the moment ? I built a second smaller base over were one life pod are, pod is 300 m down but base around 200m. There is loads of ravines around that area that I want to explore, would the Prawn Suit be good for that area or the Seamoth would still be better and then go in and out of it ?? Can only go down to 300 meter so far with it though. If anyone has any suggestions I be all ears, thanks ! :D

Seamoth is far quicker than stomping around in the unmodified Prawn. I found the depth upgrades for the Seamoth relatively easy to make so I prefer that at the moment.

Another vote for the Seamoth over the basic Prawn Suit.

Prawn Suit is for mining and going deep. Even fully upgraded, you’ll not want to schlep long distances in it.

The Seamoth is useful for the entire game and vital for most of it.

Thanks guys ! I'll wait with making it then, and try and find me some Magnetite so I can upgrade the Depth Module on the Seamoth. Where ever I can find those is another matter though, so far only found 1 pcs. :( (Which I used to make the Scanner Room HUD Chip with)

There's actually some very accessible Magnetite spawns near the starting area, but you've got to go through a cave system that goes straight down to find it. It's in the Jellyshroom Caves, and you can usually go as far down as your Seamoth allows before it starts to take damage, and then swim around and collect it, going back to the Seamoth to replenish your oxygen when needed.

There's a really easy entrance location, very close to where my lifepod spawned in my game, but I can't find any videos on that specific location. There are a load of other videos on YouTube showing several other entrances, but that's only if you want to spoil stuff :)

I don’t know whether it was just me but I kept falling through the map when I was in my prawn suit. Luckily I could jump back through each time and the ground would then fix itself and become solid again but it got annoying.

Never had that happen with the Prawn Suit, but I did have a Seamoth sink into the sand and disappear entirely once. Even its’ beacon vanished.

I've had a number of problems - not like gameplay stopping unless I saved out there - with going through surfaces doesn't seem to matter much if you are swimming or in a vehicle - the Aurora geometry especially is really buggy and 1-2 places further out from the main gameplay area I've ended up beneath the map or going sideways through a wall and out the other side sometimes able to get back into the proper map or sometimes stuck outside.

Couple of examples here

First instance I went through a floor and underneath the Aurora and in the second I bounced up through the ceiling and ended up flying up the side of the ship and 100s of meters into the air - unfortunately didn't get a screenshot at the top.

Once it starts sinking it goes past its rated depth and explodes hence beacon vanished - I've had one instance around one of the large wrecks where I parked it up in a little cave to keep it safe from all the circling bonesharks and as I was exploring the wreck got the voice overs about max depth and came out to see my Seamoth sliding downwards of its own accord and blow up :(

First time I parked my seamoth I parked in on the beach of the floating island. I think I saved, slept, went back to it hte next day and my seamoth had been sucked into the sand. The beacon was still there, slightly inside the island, but I couldn't get to it. I googled it find it is a known bug. After that I left it in the water, I found it gets ignored if you are not in it.

This wasn't long after I had to rebuild my first one because the reaper near the aurora destroyed the first one, having to rebuild twice so soon after getting it was a bit of a pita. Took me ages to figure out how to turn the damn beacon off too :p

I recall parking my Seamoth on the ramp leading up to the Aurora's innards. I hit it at some speed so managed to get further up than the ocean went. It got stuck. I think I had to swim all the way back to my base about 1.5km away and craft the propulsion cannon and then swim back again to push it down the ramp and back into the water. :p

Personally I just reload the last save if my Seamoth gets destroyed LOL.

My first encounter with a reaper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7blK0TTY5nU - seems they mostly just make one pass then go away for a bit before trying again so not too big a threat aslong as you keep an eye on where they are coming from.

I don't even have the sonar upgrade yet - just going on sound.

It is decidedly not a game for the faint of heart though hasn't had me screaming like a little girl yet hah like I've seen some.
