Subnautica

Has the "pop-in" with the textures been fixed at all?

I really enjoyed Subnautica, but seeing things in the distances suddenly pop in was a bit disappointing...

Hows everyone finding Below Zero?
I would save your £15 for now, unless you want to purchase early in order to avoid any increase in pricing later.

Overall there is very little gameplay (obviously) as it stands for what you pay. I reached the end of the content in 2hrs 20mins and had no problem with that - I had hoped I could explore a little in the seamoth but upon using the console command to spawn one, you end up with another vehicle that is quite headache inducing to use - I am not sure what is going on because I've seen screenshots of the seamoth HUD from players. Story wise only a tiny percentage of the early game has been revealed and it is meaningless as it'll likely be tweaked over the course of the year.

I must say though, I was very much surprised by the way the game starts out. Of course I suspect most of it will change anyway but the fact that you're given certain items instead of scavenging for the bits/blueprints as per Subnautica doesn't really go well with me. Doesn't matter I suppose as it is very early days.

It was great hearing the soundtrack again, and the ingame music.

Any VR users of the original game here? If so can you confirm if the menu being super close to your face in VR has been fixed? last I heard it was on the "to do list " to make it adjustable but that is the last I heared.

it makes me feel ill, in an otherwise incredibly playable VR game.

(not gonna comment about dropped VR for the new game........................... ok i will... it sucks! :( )

I don't understand why it cant still be in the game, why cant they just copy and paste code, clearly its the same engine.

No idea I'm afraid, my development knowledge isnt high enough. Perhaps its a new iteration of the engine and the code wont work, maybe they decided they would like to rework the VR from scratch and its simply a higher priority at this point to work on getting the game systems and gameworld in place and then address user interfaces later, maybe they just thought they would leave it out for now for ***** and giggles :) , I couldnt say without hiding in their offices and spying on them for a few weeks

There's a mod on NexusMods that fixes a lot of the VR issues in Subnautica.

Nope dont think so. I was still having the finer details popup when drew a bit closer to the area.

That’s disappointing :(

I feel like they really need to sort out that issue (which is probably with the engine they use I imagine ?) before they plan a new story.

The worse one was when I was playing it again yesterday where I was in a seamoth in grassy plateaus and the seamoth bumped into something and the wreck then materialised after. That was the worst example I have experienced thus far.

The bugs in the game are ridiculous hah

Yes he is riding a crab like a magic carpet :s

I think this is why a lot of developers start with Unity but then move on to another engine when their game becomes more complex though to be fair almost any engine would struggle with Subnautica.
