Subnautica

Ah okay for some reason I thought Prawn depth upgrade also needed kyanite. Time to head back under :D.

First one doesn't, second one does IIRC - first one is just enough of an upgrade to find Kyanite. Prawn suit is an absolute pain for moving about especially down there but the Cyclops was too much effort for me to bother.

Agree, I keep getting stuck on the transparent domed plants on the floor. It is quite annoying.

I’ll be picking it up for sure when that launches. I don’t care what state it’s in. Subnautica was an early access gem. I bet Below Zero will be just as good!

Likewise, Subnautica was probably the finest example of early access done right, so I have no hesitation to early access Below Zero as well.

Watching a few videos of people playing LOL they spend like hours working upto the lava area and through it setting up bases and the Cyclops, etc. think I spent less than 30 minutes and just scooted through in my Prawn suit :s

Game really took a massive dive for me in the last third - first half was excellent and I like what they did with the story overall.

On their discord channel and on the notes, I think they have mentioned that BZ will be in development longer than the main game. And they will be adding depth to the levels later on. You can check on their development boards what tickets are marked up for next releases etc. The team is quite transparent and they support the community mods.

I think the time any game takes to complete depends a lot on how one plays the game, so say in my case, I like to look around and see what the game has to offer rather than trying to comeplete the game right away. I know of a couple of friends who just play through to the end and complete games quickly, but I fail to see what they get out of it, but each to their own. (Though there are a few people who do seem to be a bit dense and have problems where I would think certain things would be down to having common sense to solve)...

That is the thing I wasn't initially motivated to try and complete the game right away and plenty of interesting things to do along the way not going at it quickly but it came to a point where spending more time on any section you were just going through the motions for no real interesting gameplay reasons and might as well just shortcut it to the next point unless you really had time to kill staring at the walls.

When I initially played Subnautica, it was literally a day after I got a refund from the launch of No Man's Sky. I used the money to buy Sub' and as a person who has had a love of the deep sea since childhood, I was gripped.

The game was in extreme early access back then (no ghost leviathan, no cyclops damage) and the storyline wasn't even remotely fleshed out, not that I cared. I worked hard getting the key points of building a sea glider, a sea moth and then the cyclops - each vehicle changing the way I played and experienced the depths. It was a joy whilst UW slowly built a storyline I couldn't care less about.

All the that mattered was the journey to the depths and the memories I had. I recall when gamers raved about the cuddle fish. After a few hours I just put the sod into my bio reactor. He was of no benefit to me otherwise!

Edit: this story bought to you by a very drunk kainz

Lol true story. It just didn't do anything for me. I was initially excited I admit but then realised that I couldn't picture it coming to the ocean depths with me as it likely couldn't handle the pressure. I tried to play with it but couldn't target it properly as it keeps swimming around. After some patience I found another one in the dunes and lobbed it into a bio reactor. Got quite a bit of power from it too.

Just finished my first playthrough of the game and have thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. The gameplay at the end was a bit short when finding the last element but otherwise it has been truly well made. Didnt quite enjoy the lava caves as visibility was poor and initially took the cyclops in without the sonar (not knowing where I was heading) so had to keeping getting out to look around. The sea dragon although massive in size did not strike as much fear in me as the reaper did/does lol.

Yeah, it's the containment. I used it for peepers (for food) and the oculus (for bio reactor).

Also for growing eggs to see what they were - if you grow a stalker in containment then it's friendly, you can then release it in the world and it will slowly turn wild.

I always had issues with that containment thing. My old base (no idea if it loads in the current build) had a 4x containment stack that would ALWAYS spring a leak and flood whole sections until I fitted in bulkhead doors. I finally tracked it down to either those fish that drop explosive gas fart eggs, or that brain squid thing (sorry, I'm really rusty on names) somehow damaging the containment walls. They were also very laggy.
