sum up 2010

Started the year in the Manta, finishing the year in the Manta.

Failed the MOT on a hole in the sill, handbrake lever not holding when knocked, and misaligned headlamp so all told not bad for a 22 year old car. All repaired now. No other major issues to speak of. Fitted an Ashley exhaust to it but not much else really.

Finally found a new rear bumper to replace my wonky one. Picking it up from Swansea at Christmas.

Currently got my winter steels on the back and no sideskirt on one side after the welding. Looking very, very sorry for itself.

Might buy some new wheels to cheer myself up (ATS Cups I think)

Next year I am going to have to replace both sills and jacking points and I'll do away with the sideskirts at the same time. I was going to pay someone to do it but the quotes have been in the region of £2000 so it looks like I will be doing the work myself.

Need to change my radiator and wire up the electric fan too.

Sold the leon in feb, sad to see it go but really wanted something with a bit more character and performance, as well as being able to kart 2 kids in. Ended up being a very close decision between a late e39 530i and the GTA. Something made me choose the 156 and haven't regretted it at all.

Been very reliable, and has a great sense of occasion about it..10 months on. Pick it back up tomorrow from a service and a rad hose replacement which is all I've ha to do to it along with some droplinks (£40) earlier on. Can't wait tbh.

My parents moved to America for a year so I inherited their E60 530d Msport.

Sold my Laguna to pay for the £1,500 insurance.

Installed an AUX-In socket so I could hook my iPod up to the ICE for £250

Had a minor incident with the gated entrance to my car park which cost £250 to repair.
While that was being done I found out that the front end of the car had been rebuilt at some point. Did some digging into the cars history and found out that it was a Cat D. :(

Replaced the horrible Run On Flats for a set of Eagle F1 Asymmetric for £700

Had a large service at BMW which included new lower-ball joints for £800

I've unintentionally done 10,000 miles this year which was never part of the plan so it's cost me £3,500 + an estimated £1,250 on fuel which means I've averaged something like 47.5p a mile.

Admittedly £500 of that was unnecessary expenditure but I still thought I'd factor it in.

The good news (for me) is that my parents are now going to stay in the States for another year so I've got more BMW goodness to come.

- Bought DC2 in feb.
- Spent loads getting the gearbox rebuilt, arches done, new engine mounts, timing belt+extras done that required it. Clutch and lightweight flywheel done as preventive measures whilst g'box out.
- Drove it a bit then took her off the road to rebuild everything steering/suspension related/brakes/de-rusting+selaing her up.
- Back on the road in Nov and finally finished.
- Total about 1000 miles covered this year.

Time to have some fun.

Sorry to see that Clarkey. Never a nice thing to happen but I'm sure you'll learn from it.

I've had a pretty good year, motoring wise.

Started off in the red 420, while the green 420 still resembled a car.
Cooked the headgasket on the the red 420 while stuck in the traffic on the M6 (hadn't fitted cooling fans, facepalm), started to strip the green 420.
Did plenty of work on the green 420 over the spring while the red 420 battled on with its water usage.
Went out for an almighty blast in the red 420 before planning to do the HG the next day (it still got me home, albeit with the cooling fans making an almighty racket!)
Replaced the head, headgasket and rebuilt the gearbox (steel caged bearings, LSD) on the red 420 ready for the Nurburgring.
Drove all the way to Germany, did 2 laps of the 'Ring and drove back without incident.
Did more work on the green 420, snapped a driveshaft on the red 420.
Dropped the engine back in the green 420, work ongoing.

So yeah, a fun year as far as Rover ownership is concerned with fairly little going wrong. LOLROVER.

bought teg at start.

sold teg at end (next weekend).

tried various other beasts in this time, from 225 F1s to 330s, nothing interested me.

01/01/2010 - Crashed my car. Great start to the New Year. Still only on my second year of driving so I was trying to save money by only getting TPFT insurance. Council didn't claim for the wall so my NCB is still intact (for now...)

March 2010 - Driving was still relatively new to me and I still had the bug so I was itching to get another car. Got a VW Mk4 Golf GTI 2.0 against all the advice of this forum. It seemed cheap so I didn't care. Cost me £2600.

Yesterday - Lost my key... It will cost me £200 to get a new one. Yippee.

You survived a car crash and a broken neck, you are alive now to post random threads. I'd say that was pretty good :D
He's got enough posts for MM now so hopefully it will stop! :)

Dunno what's up with me only buying blue cars.

bad 2010 for me, bought a e34 525i touring, had a good 4 months motoring until a minibus driver decided to have a brain fart and drive up the wrong side of the road on a blind corner and crashed into me.
i then had the use of a brand new(delivery miles) e90 318d m sport for almost 2 months whilst the claim was dealt with.
unfortunately the damage to the 525 was too much and was written off.
i have been carless since, but dont see the point in getting one now as i'm off to somewhere hot and sandy in a few months.

looking at getting a good example of the blobeye impreza sti on my return.:D

How come you crashed? Did the passenger smash his/her head on the windscreen?

Dropped his hot chocolate and as he reached down to get it, booted the loud pedal and ended up in a wall :D I expect the falling bricks smashed the screen.

For me: done a few thousand miles and spent as little as possible keeping it on the road, still won't die... MOT is coming up soon, that'll be fun. Had a total lack of motivation to go out and get a new car, mainly because I have become disheartened with the amount of tat around so saving up to reduce my chances of buying (another) rubbish car.
