sum up 2010

Started the year with a Series 1 Land Rover. Ended with one, and significantly less money :( This year a combination of my dad and I broke:
  • The front differential (Him)
  • The front nearside wing (Me)
  • Two mirrors (One each)
  • An indicator lens (Him)
  • The windscreen, frame and hood sticks (Him)
  • Added a new SS exhaust and new manifold

Then fitted 4 new tyres, which gave it much more lateral grip, and resulted in this:

Where it would have previously slid sideways, because of the more aggressive tyres it just went over instead :o

Winched it back upright, re-filled it with oil and off I went :D (The only damage being a broken mirror)

Just missed out on 1st in class over the year on Saturday

All that in only 500 miles :D And you thought your cars were expensive :p

Started 2010 with the 330i Sport at 57,000, now finishing with 72,000. Car has been absolutely wonderful, even though it has cost quite a lot to keep running. Work done:

– Insp II service (inc coolant and brake fluid) - £350
- Oil service - £90
- Front wishbone bushes - £120
- Front antiroll bar links - £40
- 2 x KDS alignments (£75 each)
- Rear trailing arm bushes - £100
- Steering lower universal joint - £80
- Oil separator valve - £170
- ARB bushes all round - £25 DIY’d
- Rear shock absorbers - £80 DIY’d
- Odd pieces - £100
- Set of tyres - £600

And i’ve recently installed a Dynavin headunit at £500.

This time next year, i will start looking at 335i’s i think (and hope!).

pretty much :D

i simply aint driving it, rather sell it on to someone who will be using it as it should be. its the right decision. :)

Yes but you are getting another one soon it seems. Confusing Southwesterner is confusing :p

Jeeze at the Volvo/Honda damage.

You stopped and he didn't, whats the story and was it solved amicably?

Poor Teg, truly deaded!

Started 2010 with a 2.0 GTV with crap paint. Required a good amount of work on the suspension (which is always to be expected on an older Alfa) and some bodywork (due to my incompetence) so it was given away...

End 2010 with a Legnum VR4 with crap paint.

Whilst the interior of the Legnum is not as nice looking as the Alfa. It's better in every other way.
I expect 2011 to start with some reasonable bills as the MOT is due in January.
I've been waiting to have spare cash to tidy up the wheels also, this will be another 2011 job.

Oh, that reminds me, I spent a few months of this year owning an Alfa 155. Now I've sold it and bought a Scimitar.

Totally uneventful year, Megane hasn't broken down, burst into flames or decided that it would have random electrical faults. Sailed through the MOT again. Decided that a brake service was needed as it hadn't been done since owning the car. Had a pair of Kumho KU31's fitted and was pleasantly surprised that I have had no fatal accidents (yet). Returned just over 45mpg on the trip to Brands Hatch and back which I consider quite good. Still have not sorted the O/S wing after the car was written off last year and given the damage too it there is not a spot of rust, even the guy at the MOT place could not believe it had been like it for over a year :D

Damn French cars always going wrong and falling to bits :p

Oh and fitted a new thermostat housing because they are plastic and crap, bar the tyres it was the most expensive single item purchased this year.

Started the year with my A4, having previously spent lots to get it how I wanted.

Put 4000 uneventful miles on it.

Bought two additional cars (M5, mk1 Focus)

Sold A4 to a mate.

Driving the Focus atm, even though it was bought for my gf. Put a new cambelt on it and gave it an oil service. New set of Nokian winter tyres. Really enjoy driving the car - mate refers to it and the 'ginger stepchild' as it doesn't get parked on the drive.

M5 hasn't spun a single wheel in all this snow. Hasn't left the drive either. Don't mind, Focus is saving me lots in fuel bills. Fancy another for myself.

I suddenly feel less hard done by

Yup :( Probably more spent in repairs this year than the previous 10 put together.

To be fair I could probably saved a couple of hundred of that by not having the main dealer do the steering rack. Still, I have found an independent now who seems to know their stuff.

up until November 2010 I had this, originally it was running circa 300bhp but was put back to standard when I came to sell it. Not without its issues though but over all I loved every second of it.

November 2010 saw this arrive.

£490 4x Continental CS3's
£50 Front Brake pads (Originals done well to last 49k and 4 track days)

£1557

Not a very exciting motoring year. Another 29k done, no major incidents *touches wood*. Hopefully next year will be much the same although next Christmas I should be coming up for a car change as it's just hit 63k.

Started with a Poooma and a C3 and ended that way. C3 had broken coil spring and thus failed MOT, replaced both of these and has required nothing else other than a bulb.

Poooma has had all suspension replaced inc lower arms and top mounts, all new bushes all round too. Also replaced a weather seal and the other is in the boot for when i can be bothered to do it. Battery died so had a new one of those too - radio is stuck in some demo mode that i cant figure out how to switch off!!! Also this morning replaced a bulb on it! I also bought some discs and pads but havent fitted them yet and its had a few litres of oil with a mid service change and it has a taste for it in normal running.

Had lots of fun in it and some of the work was preventative and upgrading for some track fun on the new Snetterton next year so while its cost a fair whack this year all been worth it.

Costs for the GTA (glad ive got it back today after driving a 1.6 Xsara rotbox)

Bought Feb '10 - £8k (FSH, 43k miles, late 2003 model)
Droplinks (£40 - fitted by mate) May '10
Yearly Service (£298 - Alfa Dealer) - December '10
Replacement lower radiator hose + fitting (£161 - Alfa Dealer) - December '10

Probably around £50-80 a month on petrol. Dont drive much in Gib for obvious reasons. iirc only put around 5k miles on it.

Upcoming expenses? Front ARB, quoted £400 fitted by dealer, place in Spain about 10 mins away does an OE ARB and fitting for £310. Will get it done there at some point in January methinks. Oh yeah, nothing electric has failed, and nowt's rattling yet.
