Is very happy :D

I look forward to the epic long post in the "sum up 2011" thread then :D

Haha let's see :) thinking of selling it before summer to be honest. Never keep my cars too long, and I reckon I can sell it for pretty much what I bought it for, owing to stupid local 2nd hand market. Spotted a mint E500 which has got me thinking...

Oh I must add, Fester dead this morning (-17 according to the thermometer in the truck!) On the way to work in the Neon, rear wheel blow out, one wrecked tyre, and managed to get into the layby quick enough to save the alloy wheel.

Go me!

Fiesta passed it's MOT this morning with no advisories. £100 spend on new tyres, £54 for an MOT and £120 for a years tax and that's all for the year bar a service. Can't beat a bit of cheap motoring

£54 for an MOT?!?! How is that cheap motoring

Because I'd rather sit on a rusty spike than take my car to Nationwide for an MOT. Not because I believe they make up failures and issues, more the fact they are not even willing to explain why they failed certain items and appalling customer service. Only an extra £20 to take it to a decent garage plus they adjusted the (notoriously crap) handbrake before the test for me FOC, so I don't really mind.

I forgot to mention that I've been commuting in my girlfriend's 53 plate Corsa since September and using the BMW as a weekend car which isn't fun but keeps the milage off the E60.

E60 as a weekend car? Colour me mildly confused.

I had an uneventful year in the mini... rebuilt the engine. that's about it... aha

rofl, you're getting your knickers in a twist over £20?

:D

Nope, just dont understand why anyone pays £54 unless they need it doing at a main dealer for warranty purposes. And it's not £20 saving - I paid £27 for an MOT, so its nearer £30.

Who wouldnt want £30?

Surely as a practicer of bangernomics and bargain priced motoring yourself you'd be the first to understand the value of easy savings where possible!

I've only paid £54 for an MOT once - when the car had BMW warranty. There are numerous places both local garages and chains offering MOT's for half that :)

*shifts around in chair*

Meh, I considered my last MOT to be a £25 cup of tea :-O

Bought my Jeep Cherokee in February and had a thoroughly entertaining weekend collecting it. I recommend to anyone who likes cars to make at least one long distance journey to purchase a car.

Needed a new battery which was about £85 (what happened to a battery being £15?)
Find group 17 insurance a bit strong and actually costs more than my old Impreza to insure
Lots and lots of fuel!!

Still got my MK3 golf in the garage and can't bring myself to take to the scrappy. No tax, no MOT and 130K. Pretty sure it will pass but tax and MOT is about as much as its worth. Been in the family so long its tough to get rid. Need the garage for storage of our new kitchen before its fitted so might have to let the golf go in the next couple of weeks. :(

As for MOT - pretty sure I was charged £50 for the jeep a few months ago - no work needed and MOT dude remarked on its good condition (for a jeep)

2011 - if the Jeep is staying long term I might consider LPG. Rear leafs are OK but would like to change them for heavy duty ones or maybe a small lift. Also would like to do it myself.

It's not an easy saving though, it's the choice of arguing with Nationwide for 30 mins, handing the car over to a bunch of clowns or going to a garage with a decent reputation, one that is willing to put the car back up on the ramps and point out things rather than laughing me off when I ask why certain items have been given an advisory.

You don't half make things sound complicated.

I dropped mine off last month, took the girlfriend shopping and came back after we had finished, paid 27 quid and drove off with an MOT certificate.

Don't get it, why pay more? I didn't have an argument with a clown oh anything (do you think only mensa candidates work at independents or something?).

The MOT fee is A maximum so in my opinion a garage charging you more than its normal labour rate to carry one out is ripping you off anyway.

Pretty boring motoring year for me. Still have an auto focus estate. Can't justify getting rid of it as it does everything I need it to do and (knocks wood) hasn't cost me much other than some brakes and a major service.

My dreams of buying a mustang are on hold for another year because of "the wedding":eek::D

It's not complicated. I got fed up of dealing with Nationwide and another local garage so took it to another on recommendation. As I said, I got the handbrake adjusted as well so I don't think I've been shafted.

Nothing much apart from an oil/brake fluid/microfilter service which included a routine maintenance check from the dealer. Got an MOT coming next year.
