Summer Transfer Thread 2018

Mark and his twitter rumours every ****ing transfer window!

Harry Wilson's joined Derby on loan. Hopefully he picks up from where he left off last season and we can sell him for a tidy sum next summer.

You love it :p it's also nice being linked to these quality players and having a decent shot at getting them now that we have klopp

I would debate whether Herrera was a "premium" player when he arrived at 24 ish - he is probably at his peak around now. He was a very good acquisition which hasn't worked out as well as hoped (individual games he has been excellent but his form has had massive peaks and troughs unfortunately). Impossible to know how Depay and Martial would adapt to this league so its fair to say they were rather speculative - esp Depay given the level he was playing at previously. I would question Shaw being speculative though given his experience at Southampton - it was just really unfortunate he got the double leg break in what really looked like it could be his break out season , and he has never been the same since. Just really awful for him, and now looks like terrible for the board as well , because even if he is given a massive chance by JM this season, he would have to be absolutely spectacular (and even then its hard to blame him if he were to walk away from OT next summer for nothing after how JM treated him last season).

At least it looks like we will roughly get the money back from Darmian and Blind this summer (makes a change after getting rinsed for most transfers out of the club in past windows)

I know its different times and stuff but if you consider Vidic and Evra cost a combined fee of what Rojo did...….I wouldn't say its "decent enough for that money" at all. He is as bad as Jones and Smalling in my book, occasionally good, but generally bang average or worse. All three have been at OT far too long just laughable how they have survived this long. I would happily sell two of the three of them this summer even if it means bringing just one CB in while promoting one or two U23s

At least (when the time comes) Utd should make some money off Romero - but highly unlikely it will be this summer.

A lot of the press last season have been praising Woodward for the "one year" extentions he has been negotiating into contracts since he came in - personally I always thought If the club is umming and aahh ''ing after 3 or 4 years of having a player at this level, surely they aren't the player we originally thought. (look at the squad 5 years later....a great many of them have gained extensions after not being that great - the board should be making the hard decisions quicker - not delaying them for another season). Otherwise you end up with a squad full of average players and Utd don't hit their performance targets.

On a slightly more jovial note......a transfer from Liverpool to Man Utd has happened this summer...…...in the Womens division (s) ...Siobhan Chamberlain has joined Utd's newly formed team managed by Ex Lioness Casey Stoney

Got to think that Klopp MUST deliver silver now this season. FSG have backed him in the transfer market with several big money deals. Now have the forwards in Mane, Firmino and Salah, have the midfielders, have the worlds most expensive defender, worlds most expensive goalkeeper. There can be no excuses now this year for not winning something.

Genuinely impressed with the amount of money Liverpool are throwing around. Shows real ambition from the owners - on paper they now have absolutely everything they need to compete, any failure at this point sits squarely with the squad and manager. If Arsenal can't win it, and we probably can't, I'd like to see Klopp do it.

I think you have to put the amount we're spending into perspective. Since Klopp's arrived, as of right now we've only actually spent around £65m - even including Alisson and the possible Fekir deal, once we've sold a few this window that will still be sub £150m or an average of less than £50m per season. The key has been how smart we've been in the transfer market over these last few years. Even excluding Coutinho we've sold really well, bringing in over £100m from the likes of Benteke, Sakho, Allen, Ibe + a few kids and more importantly, when we've spent any significant amount on a player they've not flopped, meaning we're not having to keep recycling players every summer and can focus our money on 2 or 3 key players.
