Summer Transfer Thread 2018

I hope we do get a keeper but if was to end up as butland I'd be very disappointed, he isn't better than migs imo nor much more of an upgrade on Karius.

I can see us raising few funds even if not much, origi needs to go, Sturridge maybe if any club wants to risk a perma injured player.

Can is going too so we need imo three midfielders anyway. I'd still say a striker because when firmino is off game the gap of quality between him and back ups we have is insane.

Like every one else says also a cb. That could easily cost 250/300m and I'd be very very surprised if we spent anywhere close to that

Looks like we're about to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Dortmund according to the beeb.

29yo CB with tonnes of experience, from what I'm reading he's nothing special but very reliable and consistent.

Nice to see that we're wasting no time getting our signings in, still need a top DM though.

Also being linked with Lichtsteiner from Juve who will he available on a free now.

Only issue is he is 34 yrs old and is meant to give Bellerin some competition at rb. Has lots of experience though so could be helpful but I would rather us go in for someone younger.

That's third different price now lol, only see him play briefly, then seem to be doing the defensive work, which will be good as from what I read keita likes bombing forward when possible

This would be a very welcome signing and the first proper DM we've had since Mascherano.

Suppose that confirms the departure of Can, not that Fabinho would be his replacement. Would've liked to make some money from him leaving but it's obvious he and his agent rate him far higher than we do.

It’d be a refreshing change for Utd to not be involved in any long drawn out transfer saga.

Frustrates me when you read about Fabinho almost being done for Liverpool but whenever we were interested it appeared to go on and oooooon.

Would be awesome to have everything wrapped up before the World Cup.
Wishful thinking though right? ;)

This Sokratis fella, I'm excited. This article despite the pessimistic headline actually shows you how good he is.

"
Though he did not fully establish himself as first-choice until Thomas Tuchel’s arrival in 2015, his first two campaigns with Die Schwarzgelben still brought 43 starts and a formidable 66 percent of challenges won. His promotion came at the expense of Subotic, and since the 2016 departure of Hummels for Bayern, Sokratis has been the undisputed general of Dortmund’s rearguard action, a billing he has lived up to famously.

His 69 percent ‘challenges won’ ratio this season has been a major part in helping BVB enjoy a clean sheet tally in double figures, an admirable achievement given the gung-ho nature of his team, particularly under Peter Bosz. In the top 10 for touches this season — level with Naldo and just behind Hummels — Sokratis’ 90 percent pass completion means he is just as important in getting his own side moving forward as he is in stopping BVB’s rivals doing the same. And it is not just because referees fear writing his full name — Sokratis Papastathopoulos — that he has received just three five cards this season as his play includes more finesse than his nightclub doorman 6’1″ frame would suggest.

Apparently we have bid 50m for fabinho from Monaco.

Done deal according to the bbc https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44284792

Liverpool have agreed to sign Monaco midfielder Fabinho in a deal that could be worth more than £40m.

The Champions League finalists will sign the Brazil international, 24, on 1 July for around £39m (45m euros).

A further £4m (5m euros) could be added in performance-related bonus payments and Fabinho's arrival will likely be followed by the departure of Emre Can.

"This is something that I always wanted - this is a giant of a team," said Fabinho."I am really excited."

That was fast!

I hope we go for Bale, I know he's a big risk in terms of injury but if he can stay fit there aren't many better.

If anyone can afford to just gamble on him then it's Manyoo, but won't be basically play in the same area as Sanchez/Rashford/Martial? So presumably that's one of them gone and Sanchez shifted into the middle proper and Pogba having to play from deep?

Big risk at his age and price to be honest.
Our biggest issue is what the he'll to do with Sanchez?

I don't think Mourinho is particularly keen on either Rashford or Martial, unfortunately. I think Sanchez will come good to a degree, the team has just been struggling badly, there's no way Sanchez's legs have gone yet.

We need at least 2 new defenders as well, and a player who can create going forward (possibly Fred?), not sure what's happening with Pogba, he lacks discipline against the better teams in central midfield.

Major squad surgery is needed as Mourinho doesn't trust half of them, we aren't going to make much progress until that's sorted.
