Summer Transfer Thread 2018

City should give up on Mahrez after the messing around by his agent in Jan and it seems now as well. I'm not sure what he'd add to City or who he'd replace anyway. Its another striker City need.

His agent is the infamous Kia Joorabchian apparently so no surprises he wants his cut. I think Mahrez is worth the aggro and I hope he comes in alongside Jorginho. Summer sorted.

He will add more goals, flexibility in terms of formations and prem experience (whilst also coming into his prime)

What striker out there wants to come in and be 3rd choice and be sat on the bench. Pep puts a lot of emphasis on getting goals from 'wide forwards' and there is no reason this won't continue.

Sounds like we’re about to sign Fred from Shakhtar, don’t know much about him really, €50m.

And we’re trying to sign Alderweireld for £50-70m, can’t see that going ahead.

Why not? Tottenham would surely bite your hand off if offered that amount, given his age and the clause which would be active next summer. Or do you mean you won’t pay that much?

We would be stupid to pay that much but I wouldn't be massively surprised. The only good CB we have is Bailly and I don't know if Mourinho likes him.

This Bailly thing is mind boggling. Out of the blue Mourinho's just binned him and I'm not buying that WC nonsense Mourinho came out with.

As for Alderweireld, Spurs will push for as much as they can, pointing to VVD's fee but surely nobody is paying more than £50m for him. He's 29, missed a big chunk of last season with a serious injury, subsequently been frozen out of the side and can be signed for half as much in a years time. It appears as if Utd have a pretty clear run at him too - there's only a handful of clubs that can or will pay that sort of money on a CB and I can't think of anybody that will be in the market to rival Utd. It would be interesting to see what Spurs/Levy do if Utd hold their nerve and don't offer much more than £30m. Over the last couple of seasons Spurs have waited until players have been sold before doing their business, something I suspect Poch hasn't been too happy with - will Levy penny pinch and drag things out to get the best possible price, complicating incoming signings and Poch's plans?

Can only be good news for Spurs. The comments from Poch over the last few weeks of the season were of somebody that was seeking assurances from the club regard transfers and the sort of thing I touched on above.

Yeah what on earth happened with Bailly? He was our best defender last year, got injured and now he seems to just be dropped completely

Really like him
Agreed. When he's fit, how Jones or Smalling or Lindelof play instead of him I really have no idea.

According to Ornstein we're in talks to sign 34 year old Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free.

We pretty much only have Bellerin as a RB so he's being brought in to provide some depth in that position and hopefully some much needed experience and guidance for Hector too. Can't really complain as it's a free transfer, so funds can be spent in much more important positions.

As for Liverpool signing Fekir, they seem to be building a decent squad. Where exactly does he fit in though?

You answered your own question. We've got a very good first 13-14 players but a couple of injuries and we're down to our bare bones. With Can leaving and Ox now looking like missing the opening couple of months of the season, we're going to need more midfield options even with Keita coming in and Fekir will also provide us with an option for the front 3 too.
