**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Errm, you want to show me which UTd striker I compared his stats to that was a out and out finisher that scored way more than him? or the Arsenal striker I also did the same for?

So before you go accusing me of using stats to prove something, that isn't true and that I didn't prove or try to prove, try to read what I said.
Bendtner scored 9 goals, with 1750 minutes(roughly) on the pitch last year, Crouch got 10 with almost 3400 minutes on the pitch, so one more goal for almost double the time.
Errm, That would be an Arsenal player and those would be stats are they not? :p

I still can't work out why so few strikers scored well last year, the leagues changing, ...

I've been saying this for a couple of years now; last year only Anelka got close to a striker's traditional target of 20, the previous year just two beat it, the year before that just one player got it and only one other (McCarthy) got anywhere near it. Maybe the play's changed leading to some of these situations for example :

*strikers being so well marked that they get fewer,
*striker quality decreasing; Shearer, Henry, RvN are all gone, and few are around of somewhat comparable quality, who play all the way through a season e.g. Torres I don't think has these last two years,
*striker's traditional role sort of decreasing, more and more are playing the forward's role and drifting slightly deeper,
*midfielders just scoring more / play's the type game where they're more likely to do so now,
*defenders getting better (?),
*also these last few years, it might just be me but I swear I've heard far more stress put on the importance of a DM...

So basically, both managed to score against what were all(except everton) heavily struggling , quite poor teams.
So good strikers only score against good teams? I assume Bendtner scoring one goal against Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea would make him a far better striker than someone who scored one goal against each of the other 15 teams in the league? :o

Edit: BTW, do you mind posting which teams Bendtner scored against last season. I assume they were all top teams?

Doesn't prove much to me while you were getting spanked 6-0 by city, beaten by Pool, Arsenal, Newcastle and everyone else.
So you can judge how good a striker is by how many his team concede? :o

Watch out for Modric now :)

How do you mean?

Playing better or leaving?

If Harry does use Keane behind Defoe and Crouch than this is surely where Modric sits. I can't see him dropping deeper..

Crouch isn't a bad signing for us tbh. Someone to latch on to those corners we seem to have trouble with. Just need someone who can cross the damn ball :p

I am disappointed that Bent may end up leaving. He's still our to goal scorer last season and has been given a rough ride at the lane. Sure, he's missed chances but then so do most strikers. It's a shame one incident "appears" to be his undoing.

Can't agree more with the defenders. Although and if anyone should be offloaded it should be King. I'm feed up with the ongoing saga about his knee. Either he can play week in week out or leave. Simple as that.

Real Madrid/alonso

Is anyone else seriously hacked off with Real and their annoying way of trying to get players? £30 million or F off.

"A year ago, certain players we have asked about would have cost less than half the price we are being quoted now. There is nothing that justifies these prices. If necessary, we will find the Spanish players we would like for the squad in our youth system."

I find that quote higly amusing, considering they spent £80 million on Ronaldo.

Playing better of course ;) Along with Woodgate, Palacios and Lennon he's one of the untouchables at WHL in my eyes.

Keane is going to be a problem for us this season. I don't know what happened to him on that journey up the M6 but he just isn't the same player. Hope he proves me wrong...

It's his lack of ability and confidence that's his undoing... You really think Harry is such a mug he'd get rid quality players because of one incident? I've said it a few times in here already, yes he'll score goals but if we need to push on and progress then we need players with a bit more to their game.

Too many games last season we were under constant pressure because of our forwards inability to hold the ball up. Soon as it was played forward it was coming straight back at us time after time after time.

Sorry but I don't agree with this view on King. We scream blue murder at Campbell for his treachery and lack of loyalty. King is Spurs through and through..... now it's our turn to show him the loyalty and repect we demand from players.

How many fans are moaning about all the players being greedy and not caring about the club they play for?

Seems like a fair few sources think that Toure to Man City is more or less done, £15M and £120K a week.

If this goes through and Wenger doesn't spend they deserve to finish outside the top four.

I'd agree if he doesn't try to sign someone.

Toure would be hard to replace and its not just a cast of going out and getting another CB from the high street.

They are just hacked off that Rafa is sticking to his guns about the valuation for Alonso and that their usual tactic of getting the player so unsettled they ask for a transfer has so far not worked.
I for one am glad we are not letting them bully us into selling Alonso.
