**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Bendtner and Denilson have just signed new 'long term' contracts at Arsenal. Don't really see the need as due to their age they would still fetch money by tribunal if they left the club.

Wasn't there some weird thing that for some unknown reason Utd paid for OH the year after they got him, or they included his fee(25mil was it?) in the following summers transfer window? I remember it because, well, it seemed bizarre to say the least but I can't remember the reason. Is it possible that one of those papers is adding 25mil to the wrong year basically, pumping up last years stats while dropping the others?
.

I think you have your info slightly mixed up.;)

Owen Hargreaves was meant to arrive in the summer of 06 (just after the World Cup) and everything was agreed before WC started, however Bayern saw how well he played for England and backtracked and so we signed Carrick that year instead and had to wait until summer of 07 instead

I dont believe any money was paid until the summer of 07 and the fee I understand was around £18m (he broke his leg and was out for the majority of the 06/07 season) and I seem to recall all his current problems are because of how that injury was handled

... as has our Ashley, as demanded by JT;)

I've been disappointed with Chelsea's activity in this window (I guess most fans have with their team) as there are some positions we really need strengthening but it seems the club have been shrewd with their purchases, or just shrewd with whom they haven't purchased.

The big players they were genuinely linked with would've cost Citeh/RM money (Ribery, Pato, Aguero) and their purchases would've been daft seeing as the club want to sort their finances out.

We've got rid of a couple of resource drains (Pizarro & Shevchenko) and brought in a few promising youngsters whilst giving a lot of the promising youngsters we already had valuable loan experience.
Our 1st team squad hasn't really improved much from last season except for the addition of Zhirkov and hopefully the return of J.Cole but our nearest rivals have all got (arguably) weaker squads.
Injuries permitting we're better equipped in the PL than last year & the CL is still within our grasp (as it has been) with a bit of luck:)

Chelsea, retaining their best players since 2009 ;)

Aye, it's funny that. I think most fans of the top 4 agree that Chelsea look like having the strongest squad on paper now, despite that you've not brought anyone in.

Speaking of money, it made me laugh to see Abramovich pleading to Platini to curb Man City's spending the other day. I expect the irony definitely wasn't lost on him.

It may seem funny but at least RA (and other owners of big clubs) are voicing a discontent based on footballing reasons, most have all stated they want success on the pitch combined with growth off it, and at least RA has always wanted that, Citeh are yet to prove their intentions on that side of it.:)

Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner turned down Barcelona, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich to sign a new deal at the Emirates, says his father, who is also his agent.

Can see where mini Bendtner gets it from now.
I couldn't see him getting anywhere near those starting line ups, he's not good enough.

I don't know why Arsenal / Mr Wanger is bothering to keep him.

On top of the £47 million fee, the club are paying Tévez a salary of £7.5 million a year, or just under £145,000 a week. His wages over a five-year contract take City’s total projected outlay on the striker to £84.5 million.

Shocking.
