Reports in Germany suggest Neuer is the keeper we'll be going for, haven't seen much of him but a current International no 1 would be better than De Gea who would probably have the same issues that Tim Howard and Ben Foster had when they were given the no 1 role at United

Dont see Rodwell coming tbh, not at the fee the papers are saying - 20m+ for a player who is very rarely fit and when he is doesn't get into the Everton starting XI. His fee is hardly going to ever go above the 30m mark so I'd leave him at Everton and if he progresses go for him then

My pick would probably be Sanchez although City could do more with a winger than us what with Nani's form and Valencia being back from injury so if we end up going up against them for his signature we may let them have him.

Goes without saying we need a centre midfielder, other than Modric though there aren't any other names jumping out at me in that position tbh

I can't see Brown going unless he wants to go, he's too versatile, experienced and homegrown for us to sell him. There is no chance we could replace him if we sold him unless the money was really good.

Sky reporting Lehmann might sign a short term deal with Arsenal while they have most of their keepers injured.

Would love he see Lehmann back in the Prem up to his old tricks :D

I've said it before and I'll say it again, De Gea looks an absolutely stunning prospect to me, I can't think of any keeper who's even impressed me as much as a teenager and at £15m would be a fantastic purchase, Arsenal should get in there sharpish and offer Almunia in p/x.

Not only is he a great stopper, he dominates his box, he is a great communicator (yelling his orders at seasoned pros), if he was at a bigger club he'd easily be a household name. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest throwing him in to the Premiership, everything about him oozes confidence, barring any cultural issues I would be flabbergasted if he couldn't become a hit in our league. Don't get me wrong I'd be happy with Reina, but his release clause is £20m and allegedly De Gea is going for less than that.

You've changed your tune in a bit! :) You used to go on about how he'd walk into the England team if he got any games (so if Carrick gets in the MU team, he'd go straight into it too by definition) and knowing the premium that carries surely £20m is nothing out of the ordinary?

True I was all for him at one point but he hasn't progressed at all this season so the notion of him being a done deal to United based on not a lot doesn't seem likely to me

At this point he's best off at Everton

Lol at Lehmann - wonder if hes crazier since hes left:)

He is, I can't remember but think a few things have happened. IIRC a fan had a bit of a go at him so he, took off the guys glasses, chucked them down, stamped on them, did he thump the guy aswell? Off to google........

THat sounds familiar, he took a leak in the middle of a match behind an advertising board, then in the next match, stamped on a guys foot at the end of a game, injured himself doing it, got sent off, stole a fans glasses, poked him in the face kinda, then walked off with his glasses. He then tried to get a taxi, then changed his mind and got on the team bus, then got off, got a taxi to the airport and flew him. Yeah, he's nuts, more so these days.

Outstanding:D - really hope he returns now. The more mad (not violent) players there are the better.

you've got sczesnsy, be happy.

my favourite memory of lehmann, was him picking the ball out of the net after it had not long left jenas' boot

Thats about the only memory you Spuds fans have of him....:p

Lehmann god id love to see him back at Arsenal...absolutely bonkers and a legend in his own right...he cant be any worse than what he have now tbh..

Good god, this is as bad as when Sol Campbell returned to us.

Is this really, for all the lauded scout (network), the best we can come up with? Is there no other keeper out there who could come over. We don't even need one that would be cup tied.

you've got sczesnsy, be happy.

Well not really.

My favourite memory of Lehman was his toilet antics at Stuttgart. He went for a **** behind an advertising hoarding whilst the game was still in progress!

Nutter.

The thing is though that in order to be able to sign a player outside the transfer window, they either have to be unattached or you have to try and persuade the FA to let you do it. So in order to get someone in before the weekend the simplest thing is to get somebody who is out of contract, and that pool of players will be much smaller. There can't be THAT many keepers who don't have a contract, are as good as Lehmann, and would be able to slot in straight away on a short term basis (i.e. speak good English, have knowledge of the club, manager etc).

The real question however is what sort of message does this send to the likes of James Shea - sorry son, you're wasting your time, we don't trust you enough to sit on the bench...
