I've always thought Barry was thoroughly average, have no idea how he got into the Man City team. Spurs must have at least a bit of money and will surely aim a lot higher.

Funded by a possible sale of Parker to Sunderland by all accounts.

i wish we would spend some money

Yes you didn't have your annual raid of the Spurs camp last summer. Well over due :p

Nothing would make me happier than seeing Gervinho being slung out, utterly useless as a player and a monumental waste of money on wages and transfer fee, if we paid one that is.

At least getting rid of him free's up more money to pay world class players decent wages...just a few more out the door is what i want to see then some big signings.

I know you were kidding - but its not THAT often Utd sign Spurs players.....is it?

(I can only think of Sheringham, Carrick and Berbatov in the last 17 years or so)

Cant think of anyone else Utd have either signed or even tried to sign in that time.

is there another pl club you've signed more players from in that period?

why only pl?

Sporting Lisbon is 2 players in the last 10 years
If Utd are lucky Dortmund could be 2 players in 2 summers :D

I cant think of any particular PL club who we have bought from prolifically.

Everton are probably (recently) who we sell to most often (Howard, Neville and Gibson), although Chelsea arent far behind with Veron and Obi Mikel (sp?).....and Rooney? hahaha

In recent years anyway from what I can recall off the top of my head.

Original point stands - one player every 5 years or so isnt exactly constant.

Never really understood the hate for Barry. He's reliable, works hard and keeps things ticking over in midfield. He's basically Owen Hargreaves without the 3 or 4 exceptional games for England that made him stand out.

Barry is slow, **** at tackling, crap at passing, and completely immobile. He has no great qualities, why would a 'top' club want someone like at, he makes Carrick look like Pirlo in his prime.

I see why city bought him, he was younger at the time, British and a stepping stone player for their transition, they should have fleeced him a year or so ago though and bought better.

For Spurs to buy him would be a step back when they have plenty of players with better qualities for the centre.

Some might say his experience is valuable, but the only experience he has is of being molested by european players. I still vividly recall his arse waddling as Ozil jogged past him.

Even in just the one season at the club I saw more ability in Hargreaves than I've seen in Barry since his Villa days

Saints have signed a new CB Dejan Lovren from Olympic Lyon for somewhere around £12.

Better be good as we've got some pretty average CB's at the moment...

A couple of years ago I'd have loved us to sign Lovren. I can't say I've seen much of him lately but according to those that have, he's been pretty **** for quite some time.

Haha! Woops mail reported £12m a French paper is reporting more like €8m, big difference but either way no more Jos the Boss ironically giving away penalties and generally being rubbish is worth any money these days.

Baz there's no way he can be as bad as Jos the boss, that's all that matters, he can go and not be rubbish for us.

I don't know. He's been linked with Liverpool a lot over the last year and most of that talk is that he's been terrible of late. He was meant to be the next top CB when he signed for Lyon and from the bits I saw of him, he looked a real prospect.

Yeah I'm not getting across how bad the players he's replacing are, he's in for Jos Hoiveld who was in the "worst prem XI 2012/13" because he scored 3 own goals and had another 3 "deflect off him" along with giving away at least 3 penalties this season and being accountable for at least 10 other goals where people have beaten him for pace, positioning or basic footballing ability.

I have my hopes this new guy is at least 30% better than Jos, its means we'll have a tall cb who might just manage to play with Yoshida (who turned out too be not to bad) or Forren (who has had a 9 month holiday since we signed him and better be good or else). Not a big ask from a 23 year old, he probably won't be great but so long as he's better than the Jos or Fonté I couldn't care less, we need cb's who are up to speed against premier league footballers and I have hopes he's at least on the way to being good enough for that. :)
