Bale isn't a goal scorer, it's got nothing to do with the opposition or the strength of the PL its the fact he doesn't have that goalscorer's knack of being a tap in artist, that's what's made Ronaldo the complete player he is; he can do all the flashy stuff but when it really matters he's just as capable of doing the ugly stuff as well

That and he absolutely dominated the box from corners and was also superb at defending corners (something RVP does so well for us now.)
There was a lot more to Ronaldo's game than *just* goals, he'd win us set-pieces by running at people (something we simply don't have now as arguably only Kagawa glides past people now) and he'd create an amazing amount of space for others which is why Rooney hasn't looked like a standout since Ronaldo left (remember people saying Rooney made Ronaldo look good? hmmm.)

Signing completed of Jake Bidwell from Everton - youngest player for them (or held the record up until recently) and was in the 30-man Under 20 England squad this summer. Bodes well that a League One club can attract these kind of promising players.

Also looks like we've signed Alan McCormick from Swindon. A feisty and aggressive player. Just what we need.

Nothing confirmed, but looks like Harry Forrester will snub a new contract to try his hand at earning a Championship salary whilst getting familiar with the bench next season :(

Jake Bidwell sounds like one of those old Playstation 2 'Pro Evolution Soccer' players that's meant to be Jack Rodwell.

Haha - I would quite happily take Rodwell over Bidwell, but they most likely played in the Everton youth team together.

Theoretically we could compete in this league with our current squad, but feel that we'd need a winger, an extra centre back and a striker. Think we'll win the league this season (although I've said that for the last three seasons...)

Looks as if Pennant has signed a new two year deal to stay at Stoke, although some rumours say it's only one year. Have to say, I'm happy to see him choose to stay and, even as a squad player, I just hope he can produce some of the form that he's capable of. Have to say though, him deciding to stay is a damning indictment of Pulis' man-management skills.

It looks like Carroll's close to completing his move to West Ham. David Gold mentioned on twitter that they're finalising the deal and now David Sullivan's son has tweeted that the deal's agreed subject to a medical - £15.5m rising to £17.5m on a 6 year contract*

*His son looks 5 so I wouldn't take that as gospel though.

Couple of million loan fee on top of that too.

I'm not getting my hopes up just yet though, sounds too good to be true. He'll fail his medical or something now.

Why would he need a medical, did they not keep tabs on him throughout the season?

I thought they did regular checks on players nowadays.

Lol he depreciates faster than an Alfa Romeo doesn't he? :)

I wish Arsenal would hurry up and get the Higuain deal sorted. Just a fee to finalise apparently.

Yeah it would be nice. I know he hasn't had the best season but we arent in the frame to attract the very best players in the world, so we have to settle for very good players that have dropped out of form.

I think he could be what we have been waiting for, he will certainly get the chances at Arsenal.

Get that deal done and move onto the next one ;)

£17.5 million? Never thought we'd see anywhere near that figure for him. They're not after Downing as well are they?

Are they mad? That is way over the top for a player that has been virtually booted out by the manager as unwanted.

Westham "How much do you want for him?"

Liverpool "£17.5m would be fair..(cruckles in backgrond)

Wesham "Ok but we will only pay £15m up front"

Liverpool "....'silence'....really? I mean, yeah you drive a hard bargain...erm when can you put that in writing....want me to come over now save you time??? Really I don't mind...

In all fairness I think getting back about half what they paid for him (plus the prior loan fees) means Liverpool should be snapping West Ham's arm off. Obviously they'd prefer to make no loss but sometimes you've just got to recoup what you can from an investment that doesn't turn out as you hoped.
