So in his time at Liverpool he has racially abused another player, bit another player, swore at Fulham fans, dived non stop, kicked Scott Parker full pelt in the stomach, made untold snide challenges and yet the the thing which convinces Liverpool fans that hes scum is him wanting to move to a club which can offer him champions league football...

40m was fair all round when he hasn't put in a transfer request. Now they can decide to keep a player who openly wants out and get half that valuation or less in the next 12-18 months.
Liverpool just cannot afford to do that. Neither though can they afford to sell to Arsenal. Nice work Suarez, top job.

Frankly, I say we should just sell Suarez to Arsenal for 40m right now. Just get him out of the door while there is still time left in the transfer window to invest the money we get for him.
I'm sure I read an article at the end of last season which showed that whilst Liverpool finished 7th with Suarez, that they would actually have also still finished 7th if you removed Suarez contributions. If I am recalling that article correctly, then it could be argued that despite all his goals his actual impact on our final league position was irrelevant.
We can win perfectly well without Suarez, and we have done so. Aspas is looking good, Coutinho is undoubtedly extremely good and Sturridge showed in the second half of last season that he can bag goals too. Sell Suarez right now, today, and get that money invested in some other players while there is still time.

Why would we receive less than half that in 12 months? Handing in a transfer request doesn't mean it will be accepted, he will be sold or that we have to accept the 40million, the price as it hs been all summer is £55million. Should man U accept Chelsea's bid of 25 before Rooney hands in a transfer request, don't want him going for 12 million do they?

Look at downing, he was signed by liverpool for £20M, now he can leave for £5M

nah, value was specifically related to transfer request shenanigans, he is 26 not 31 (Downing was never that good, don't know how folks can make the same comparison, he was worth 5-8 when we overpaid for him, his value is still the same as far as I'm concerned)

The nearer he gets to the end of his contract the less you will get and when a player wants away and hands in a request their value never goes up does it?
