Danny Welbeck has won the premier league and guess what? still rubbish! he was good at Liverpool but injuries and lack of confidence ruined his career.
I wouldn't say his career has been ruined. He's merely returned to a similar scoring rate that he had at Athletico before joining Liverpool. The difference (for me at least) is that at Liverpool the team was designed around creating chances for him alone. At Chelsea that's not the case, it's designed around everyone.

Anyway, we're kinda off topic now. It'll be interesting to see what Chelsea do with Torres if they do manage to sign Rooney.

U still cant deny in the last 3 seasons he has been absolutely terrible for Chelsea and Spain? I'm judging him on his form and he has been very poor. I thought last season when he started off pretty good he had turned a corner but that only lasted till around October before he went useless again.

The late show as the transfer window is shutting is usually majority of money up front style deals. Deals with negotiations over payment schedules, amounts, personal terms etc can sometimes take a while. And if they count on keeping Suarez they probably haven't even looked at replacements.

Interesting that some Arsenal fans (well Tim Payton) believe that the board have been very public about the amount of cash they've got to pressure Wenger into spending it and to make it clear to the fans that it's him, not them that's not spending.

Or on the flip side it's the board looking for Wenger to be a scapegoat while they take even more money away from the club.

I hope to god that when (if) we qualify for the champs league some money gets spent to strengthen our weakest areas otherwise we are in big trouble this season.

If Wenger is made to be a scapegoat, Dont expect him to renew his contract with arsenal. Why would he if he is treated like that?

I was talking about the Chelsea bid, I do wonder if Chelsea were to offer £30 million for him, would you sell to them?

No, it'd need to be £40m~ (to Chelsea), and we'd need an equally good/better player lined up to replace him. I'm talking a Cristiano Ronaldo, not a Fellaini. :p

I know Utd think £25m is way too low and they should be getting £40m odd, but I don't think that is entirely realistic. I think £25m would be fair all round.

If you wanted to scapegoat Wenger, it would be over more than a minor profit every year. If the board owners wanted, the 100mil we bring in from the stadium spanks that of all but one other team in the league. We would be significantly more profitable in 5th place out of the champions league but spending 80mil a year in wages. 20-25mil for the champs league to get just out of the group stages(and thats today, till a couple years ago it was more like 10-15mil) but we spend 50mil more in wages than Spurs do? We could have taken the 110mil we made in player sales in the past two seasons and NOT spent it, instead we spent about 110mil in new players......

The board make a fairly slim profit(as yet) and have spent in most seasons what we make in player sales. There is no 40mil profit every year they are protecting, we just don't make that much profit, we could but due to the high wages and huge squad we don't.

Wenger, and no one else, chose to implement his wage structure different to most other teams in the league, Wenger chooses to keep dozens of youth/reserve players well past the point we know they won't make it at Arsenal while paying them some serious wages. We released 22 players so far and made 2mil back on them, we spent 15mil alone on Arshavin who we've turned down offers for because the offers were too low, Denilson, Santos last season and many others.

THe maybe more worrying question is did Wenger u-turn and finally say lets stop wasting money on bad players just because he feels bad to show them the door, or did all the youth/reserve players finally realise Wenger has no interest in giving them real games, any chance at real development and walked out while Wenger wanted to keep them.

If the board were about the profit, we wouldn't be pushing north of 150mil in wages, we wouldn't have spent just about every penny made in player sales in the past 2 years back on buying replacement players.

If the board cared about profit, and profit alone, Wenger wouldn't be in charge and our wages would be maybe where Spurs are spending now. People bang on and on about the financial boon that is finishing fourth, but how on earth is being in fourth, making 20mil from the champs league profitable if you have to spend 50mil + more than the guy that finishes in 5th to do it? Spend 50mil + more to chase after the 20mil bonus champs league places............ can anyone do basic maths?

How can Rooney only be worth 25/30m when Torres went for 50 ? Andy Carrol went for 35 ffs!!

Because he had a bad season by his standards, so that means he's worth next to nothing supposedly. Based on the prices being thrown around this Summer, he should be way in excess of £40m

I dont recall Rooney being banned for biting either, (or racial abuse either for that matter)

Also Rooney just won a EPL medal (one of several of which the Saurez has nothing, in this count)

35m upfront from Chelsea is reasonable all round
