All things considered, Rooney and Suarez are on par

I said this a few weeks back and got laughed at, I think Purdy even called me a retard.

People seem to forget how good he is because he's had one bad season, even though he was still one of only four players in the PL to get double figures on both goals and assists (12 goals, 10 assists), and those numbers are still poor by his standards

..

If the board cared about profit, and profit alone, Wenger wouldn't be in charge and our wages would be maybe where Spurs are spending now. People bang on and on about the financial boon that is finishing fourth, but how on earth is being in fourth, making 20mil from the champs league profitable if you have to spend 50mil + more than the guy that finishes in 5th to do it? Spend 50mil + more to chase after the 20mil bonus champs league places............ can anyone do basic maths?

I was thinking about this the other day. Company finances and the way they define profit is a mystery to me. It's the same as why the NHS is needing billions of investment yet the treasury are spending the same cash on HS2. Doesn't make sense.. I digress only to use that as an example.

The transfer pricing seems to be a just a merry go round. Looking at the activity of Spurs over the years, it seems to balance out. The issue for clubs is the wage bill, as that is more of a liability and strain on the club i would guess..

Just my view.

Bless him. :p

You're absolutely right. Rooney is criminally underrated by some.

He was often deployed in various positions for us, affecting his goal tally or other things, but he's always done a good job more often than not. We've also had a crap midfield, so he's generally played a lot deeper than normal because we simply can't hold on to the ball.

He scores important goals and he plays well fairly consistently in big matches, there aren't many better players. I certainly don't consider Suarez to be a better player, he's better at dribbling and that's about it.

Unfortunately behind the scenes issues have clearly affected Rooney, he hasn't been himself for a while now and his fitness has suffered likely as a result of that. A fully fit, fired up Rooney is a fearsome player, right up there with the very best (in the bracket behind Ronaldo and Messi).

I don't know, but I'd hope that Moyes at least tried to win him over and convince him he's best served by staying at the club.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him end up at Real Madrid, he's a big name player, a better striker than Benzema and they can afford him.

Rooney would be a great signing for wenger, aslong as he plays as a striker. :)

He would. If Arsenal played him as an out and out striker, he could easily flourish there. I'm not sure Arsenal would help his fitness though... :p

Arsenal should be trying everything in their power to get us to sell them Rooney, but they don't seem to be at the moment.

Couldn't help but laugh at one of the things that Henry came out with......

There aren't 100 players you could replace Suarez with and according to Henry the players we identified to possible replace him have had their futures resolved already. We could have 2 months to find a replacement but if they players we want have already been sold then it's too late.
Except what I said made sense and you were just being daft.

All things considered, Rooney and Suarez are on par, both want out, both £40m ish.

They're really not on a par. Suarez is a better player and has a longer contract.

Notoriously big spenders Chelsea are willing to offer £25m for Rooney. Tightfisted Arsenal are willing to pay £40m for Suarez - which is seemingly not nearly enough to tempt us either.

I don't think Suarez is better, if Rooney is at his best, and that is more than likely going to happen if he goes to a new club. The contract is a fair point though. I don't think Suarez is a £50m player either, he's a £40m player at best really.

Unfortunately in a world where Real Madrid are rumoured to be wanting to pay £90m odd for Gareth Bale and yourselves paid £35m for Andy Carroll, things have become horribly distorted.

Can't agree that Suarez is a better player, either.

I'd say they both on a par if played in their correct positions. Both also come with a fair bit of added ****.

If Rooney's at his best? He's not been for quite some time. Suarez on the other hand was the best player in the League last season.

And if I was responding to you I'd have quote you :p

I was though and I did ask who said Rooney was rubbish, not that I didn't say he was rubbish.

Distorted from what? Players have always been worth what people are willing to pay/demand for them, can't really go 'yeah hes a 40m player, not a 50m player', there isn't exactly any benchmark for that

The majority of peoples opinion, not that many on here have sense, believe it to be the case.

Football fans have memory issues I think, none of them can remember further than a few months :p.

That's quite true but I'm just talking in general, based on ability/quality/marketing/desperation. It's difficult to quantify.

For example, I don't think Gareth Bale would be anything close to the marketing behemoth (some :p) Spurs fans believe he would be.

They think he's the second coming of Ronaldo in every sense, which just isn't true.
