The majority of peoples opinion, not that many on here have sense, believe it to be the case.

Football fans have memory issues I think, none of them can remember further than a few months :p.

But it's that player form?

Take torres at liverpool he was a goal factory (multiple machines). But at chelsea he scores a couple here and there. He is still a great player but whereas 90% of people (while he was at liverpool) would have said he was in the top 3-5 strikers of that year, now probably only 10% would..

Like you say though, just because Roony isn't scoring goals doesn't mean he's not playing great becuase he still is... Though i can see how some folk (idiots) think he is...

Distorted from what? Players have always been worth what people are willing to pay/demand for them, can't really go 'yeah hes a 40m player, not a 50m player', there isn't exactly any benchmark for that

I assume they'd of worked it off, well player A sold for £20M and Player B is very simiular to Player A (in all respects) so worth around £20M?

I guess now its more about release clauses.

Suarez is world class carrying Liverpool at times. Rooney has not been his best for a long time i agree when he's on form he is a very good player but i would pick Suarez over Rooney all fay long.

What will Rooney bring in from his marketability that Suarez won't?

I don't know all the products that Rooney advertises but hasn't he been the face of Fifa games for a while, Nike, Nokia and quite a few others?

Does Luis Suarez offer comparable endorsements? I don't know but Wayne Rooney is still a pretty marketable commodity despite a season where he wasn't at his best. Most of those endorsements will, naturally, only really directly impact on the players wealth rather than the clubs but having a high profile player with connections to a variety of large/wealthy sponsors is rarely likely to hurt a club in the profitability stakes even if most of the benefits are felt indirectly.

Arsenal should just drop £40m for Rooney to try and mug off Chelsea!

Chelsea will only come back and bid £50mill to completely take us out of the equation:p.

But i agree with you, id rather us bid £40mill for Rooney and see what happens. As i said before the worst that will happen is Utd saying no then we can take it from there.

Im really hoping that now we end our interest in Suarez, let him rot and embarrass Liverpool for a few more years:p.

It seems that the transfer window has ground to a sudden halt... the calm before the storm, who will panic first and slap £10-20m on their respective offers. :p

Everton seem to be totally against selling Baines and Fellaini, but I think they probably will in the end. However, removing both of them from the Everton team suddenly makes it look rather average. Didn't Martinez tell Kenwright that he was certain he'd get into the CL and so on. Little chance of that (even with Fellaini and Baines).

Seems so, reckon quite a few deals will be done on the final day...hoping one of them isnt Arsenal and Suarez:p. So far it seems only Arsenal and Utd havent spent any money this transfer window. Usually Utd do their business before the end, in fact they do it pretty much at the beginning of summer without much whimper. But with Fergie no longer being there, seems its very different now.

Dont think Everton are strong enough to get into the CL personally especially with the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and to some extent Liverpool all competing for the 4th spot at the moment. This season the battle for 4th will be pretty interesting especially if Arsenal dont sign anyone and we go with the same squad we finished with last year.

On another happier note, im glad to see the back of Gervinho to Roma for £8mill, lost a bit on him but at least hes gone and hasnt stuck around sucking up wages like some of our rubbish players have done:p

Rooney has been the poster boy for English football but Bale has stolen a lot of his limelight over the last year or so, NBC have been advertising in Times Square with a huge Premier League/Gareth Bale advert, a few years ago that would almost certainly have been Rooney.

Except what I said made sense and you were just being daft.

All things considered, Rooney and Suarez are on par, both want out, both £40m ish.

Of course it made sense to you. Strangely enough being "fair" with the Rooney fee doesn't. Quell surprise.

And the later is the better player.

One is unrealistic and the other isn't. As I've said, it's a matter of opinion as well.

If you really think Rooney is worth £25m to a direct rival then... :/

Well arsenal have their cl qualifier now, not going to be an easy game. Maybe some backup signings before we start wenger?

I can see us going late into August and still only getting some some unknown.

Made me laugh when one of the papers said another £8m to add to the transfer budget... Might as well be £80m or nothing makes no difference if you don't sign anyone.

I hope that our youth team have a few more wilsheres hidden in the ranks...

The other thing is that a Rooney lacking motivation, coming off his worst ever season still did better than the vast majority of other players in the league, so if he gets his mojo back at Chelsea then you have to be worried as a Man Utd fan.

Torres went to Chelsea for £50m after a serious injury and arguably a worse season in terms of performances, for Liverpool, so £25m for Rooney is just ridiculous.

No, I don't think Rooney should be or will be sold to a direct rival for £25million. Suarez should not be sold to a rival for £40million either (which you thought was fair) which was my point.

Rooney is a world figure and icon in the game, his shirt sales are massive regardless of what side he plays for. Way beyond anything Suarez brings in.

Also with regard sponsors and marketing you would have to assume Rooney is preferable he's not a cheating cannibal :p

I think this is quite important, as it means Arsenal would have got Higuain but they decided to put all their eggs in the Suarez basket, so to speak.

Not really the most wise of decisions, was it?

Could also mean they are more desperate so will quite possibly start raising the offer.

Of course it isnt the wisest of decisions, it was pretty stupid of us to give up on Higuain and concentrate on Suarez therefore losing out on him. If what Ornstein said is true..quite frankly boggles the mind as to why we would even consider Suarez when firstly hes a **** on and off the field and secondly for a number of weeks, Liverpool have made it clear that they arent going to sell him to us.

But this is Wenger all over, hes done this time and time again in the past. We had a chance to sign Drogba for £100k and didnt, we had the opportunity to sign Ibra and again we didnt then we had the chance to sign Ronaldo and yet again didnt. All 3 of those players went on to become great players and Wenger thinks he can spot talent a mile off....evidently he no longer can:(. Probably too scared to take a risk and sign a big name player and see what happens but has absolutely no issue getting young unknown players on freebies or for a cheap price :/

This is why we will never win any trophies or compete for the PL title until Wenger pays big money for big name players. Id be very surprised if we get 4th again this year with the squad we have at the moment...one thing is for sure, the squad we have isnt good enough to win any trophies or challenge for the PL title.
