Marchisio, Vidal, DeRossi, Inler (to a degree), Gundogan, Hernanes, Diego. Pretty much any one of those would be a big boost.

Likelihood of us getting any of them though :/ :/

Jamie Jackson at The Guardian is throwing us a bone...

David Moyes is considering a bid for Luka Modric now that Manchester United's pursuit of Barcelona's Cesc Fábregas appears over, with the manager a long-term admirer of the Real Madrid playmaker.

With the 27-year-old having been transferred to Real from Tottenham Hotspur for £33m last summer, any initial offer for Modric would have to be in the region of £25m for a midfielder who fell down the pecking order under José Mourinho, who was his coach until the Portuguese rejoined Chelsea in the close season.

Moyes has made the purchase of a top-class goalscoring midfielder his priority this summer and was hopeful that Fábregas could become the first major signing of his tenure. But after the former Arsenal captain publicly stated on Thursday that he wished to remain at Barça, Moyes could now firm up his interest in Modric.

£25m though? Think it'll need to be more. :/

Give us £25 mil for Marchisio and i will drag him to Old Trafford for u guys. He is so over rated by so many people. He had 1 good season with us in 11/12 not worth more than 15 mil max.

I'm stil raging at how transparently conniving RM are.
They start with the "you are are the one... We will pay anything to get you...£100m is not too much".
Then they try and aggitate the player further with "RM only come calling once. This will be your only chance to join us".
The final swing is "gadzooks! We can't afford you, we would love you to come but our bank balance says no. If only there was a way that you could influence your selling price and reduce it somehow..."

It is such an obvious manipulation and transfer formula. Why can't anyone stop it! ROAR.

Also how can players not see how shallow it all is and that they will be tossed aside in super fast time in a sort of easy-come,easy-go way?

So many excellent players have lost their way and screwed their careers by going to RM. I am surprised players keep taking the punt.

Jay Spearing has just completed his permanent move to Bolton.

Missed this earlier. With all the talk about loyalty in football lately, he's one of a very few who's loyalty could never be questioned. If there's ever been somebody that's deserved to make it at Liverpool it was him - he would have quite literally played anywhere just to play for Liverpool. There were times in the reserves where all 4 foot nothing of him would fill in at cb when we were short.

Unfortunately he was never good enough but I hope he does well for himself at Bolton.

In other news Rodgers has denied we're in for Cissokho. That's a surprise.

Zdravko Mamic and Daniel Levy reportedly met in Dubrovnik (Croatia) to discuss the sale of Alen Halilovic. Apparently the two (Mamic and Levy) were spotted together today in the city. It's the same place they met to do the Modric deal.

Mamic was supposed to board a plane with Dinamo for their match against Sheriff (played Wednesday night), but mysteriously left the airport just before take-off. It is being suggested now that the reason was to meet with Levy.

from a croatian paper and pretty speculative but this deal may not be dead in the water. some people say he's a bit of a brat but this may be acceptable at 17 but he certainly looks talented.

We played Bolton last season when he was playing for them, very solid at Championship level and I fully expect him to be a success (relative to Bolton), he was also tough tackling (overly so) but I think that was born out of his need to try and impress.

He also, kicked a ball out of play towards the end of the game and it broke a kids nose just a couple of rows in front and to the right, the kid was bleeding and as it was close to the Sheffield Wednesday bench Gary 'I like to set things on fire' Madine gave him his shirt (the kid was upset) but him and his dad seemed very keen to finish watching the game. Spearing had clearly seen this and was very clearly distressed for the final 3/4 minutes and stuck very close to the side of the pitch and kept shouting to the kid (I presume to see if he was ok). Anyway, as soon as the whistle had gone, Spearing sprinted off the pitch, in to the crowd, found the kid, gave him his shirt and the Sheffield Wednesday club doctor came over to see if he was ok. Spearing spent a good long time with the kid and the father and the crowd around very appreciative of his actions at the final whistle. It was funny, as the players who saw it (Spearing mainly) and Sheffield Wednesday bench seemed more bothered about the kid then the stewards.

Good to hear. He's always come across as a decent guy.

It looks like I might have to take back every bad word I've had to say about Fat Sam soon. First he takes Cole off our hands, then Carroll and now it looks like Downing's on his way to West Ham too.

edit: And it doesn't look like Costa's happening which is a shame, I was looking forward to him throwing spit on Terry.

.

He's turning West Ham into the Liverpool reserves. :)

Good luck to him.

When the game kicked off, the people I sat with weren't instantly convinced by Spearing, we knew he was on loan from L'pool but we also knew he was playing a role. He was being very physical and very competitive, a Masch role if you will, however the grumbling's about his physical side evaporated towards the end of the game when you saw how distressed he was that he had hurt a kid and his reaction after the final whistle.

Everything else about his game, short passing, movement, vision and to a large extend his technical ability on the ball were very impressive for a Championship player, I guess this was mainly due to being a product of Liverpool mind, it's not often we see a quality looking player from the Premiership, let alone a huge club like Liverpool, you either see youngsters who are too raw or older players / players coming back from injury.

We had Holden (funnily enough on loan from Bolton) who was coming back from a leg break (Johnny Evans tackle iirc) and even at half fit, he was brilliant, he just looked a big cut above the midfielders we had and midfields we played against, you totally understood why he was an international player and he really shouldn't be down in the Championship, huge shame that he's injured (seriously) again.

I quite like Big Sam, but he's mental for taking Downing (although, no Liverpool fan will complain).

still nothing official on capoue but signs look promising. if we get willian and lamela with the bale cash (if he goes) we will be solid.

Tottenham have taken their spending this summer to beyond £50million, ahead of recouping a potential world record transfer fee of more than £80million for Gareth Bale.

Source: Telegraph

A £9million deal was completed on Friday for Toulouse holding midfielder Étienne Capoue, with the France international undergoing a medical on Friday night and expected to be at Tottenham's final pre-season friendly on Saturday against Espanyol.

Roberto Soldado, the club’s new £26million record signing, is in the squad for today’s match at White Hart Lane but Bale will be conspicuous by his absence as the deadlock continues over his proposed move to Real Madrid.

Spurs are not interested in Real’s suggestion that payments could be stretched over the term of a six-year contract. Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, did meet Madrid president Florentino Pérez on Tuesday but talks broke down quickly, with Spurs judging that the valuations that Real were placing on their players – striker Álvaro Morata, winger Ángel di María and left-back Fabio Coentrao – were inflated.

Spurs would want at least two of the players discussed should they sell Bale, having decided that simply having money in the bank is of no benefit to them. They also doubt whether Madrid have the money to reach their valuation of Bale, which is around £100million.

The signings this week of Soldado and Capoue, however, do seem to suggest that Tottenham are confident of recouping significant funds in this transfer window.

Despite being unavailable on Saturday for Tottenham, Bale is in the Wales squad for the match against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

Regardless of which club he plays for next season Bale’s income is expected to increase after it was confirmed that his application to trademark his ‘Eleven of Hearts’ celebration logo has been successful.

The Intellectual Property Office confirmed yesterday that the logo, which includes a No 11 inside a heart shape made of two hands, has been trademarked.

Bale’s advisers have plans to introduce the symbol on to a number of products which will be revealed to the public at a later date.

That could stand to make him up to £3million a year, according to Nigel Currie, director of sports marketing agency BrandRapport.

He said: “The possibilities are huge for Gareth Bale. Once he has that right he can cash in on it and become a more well-known player. A third of his overall income could be made from his image rights, potentially up to £3million a year.”

if this goes official, it will be paulinho, chadli, soldado and capoue.

there is also very promising rumours that talks are indeed taking place over lamela and willian has been on AVB's radar for a couple of years though there was rumours city have bid for him but these seem to have been quashed. pjanic is also a strong possibility too from what i've been reading. we do need an attacking midfielder. of the 3 i'd prefer willian if we keep bale, lamela if we don't. a front 3 of willian soldado and bale would be pretty incredible.

i expect us to get a lb or cb too.

Chump (or should that be chimp) change.......What was brand Beckhams earnings last year? over 50 million wasn't it?
