I think it's based on what a pundit said, can't remember which one but I suspect Shearer, saying that if Real were serious and had the money then the deal would be sealed already but because Spurs supposedly want all the cash up front it is an indicator that Real don't have the cash. That coupled with the apparent fact that we're still invoicing them for Modders.

I don't know that it means anything at all. Even if they had the cash to pay up front, why would they want to. If they have all the money and spend it up front then what do they use to buy other players over the next few years. Its a lot of money to spend and they already have Ronaldo so I would think they are trying to find a way to buy him within the realms of a deal that won't put them in an awkward position going forwards.

Shearer? Is that you?

How utterly depressing, there goes any challenge of top 4 if it was at all possible

Ben Smith saying spurs have Willan & Lamela.

Bale is off, can't see them wedging out 130 million without Bale's money coming in. Makes them weaker at this moment in time in my book, too many variables with a brand new attacking force (u saw how poor they were against Palace without Bale for one).

Still think we need a powerful CM and another CB over an AM/AML/AMR personally.

Huh, I am saying the opposite to what Shearer apparently said. All I am saying is that nothing can be deduced from Madrids reluctance to pay over the odds for Bale. It doesn't suggest anything about their finances or ability to pay the fee up front.

Not Shearer no, more that every indication I've seen is that Madrid want to pay the fee over 5 years at something like €20 a year, and they are having large amounts of trouble getting money from the Spanish banks, because shock horror, there isn't any money in Spain at the moment.

I'm still convinced this is all a ploy to get Ronaldo to sign a new contract.

The implication was that you know about their accounts like Shearer does....probably didn't make as much sense as it did in my head.

Latest on the beeb

BBC Sport's Ben Smith: Liverpool have, I'm told, missed out on Willian. Leandro Damiao not on list of alternatives. Spurs now look set to complete moves for Willian and Erik Lamela. Anyone would think they were about to come into some money.

I'd like this to happen today preferably. To compound the ineptitude of Arsenals transfer dealings and to liven up my Tuesday afternoon.

Fair enough. I was just saying that Shearer was talking rubbish by deciding that the only possible reason RM hadn't already signed Bale was due to funding issues.

LOL just gets worse and worse for Arsenal, looks like Newcastle reps have flown to France to meet PSG reps about Cabaye.

We have supposedly £70mill to spend and yet we are making joke bids for players :/. Depressing stuff from Wenger and Arsenal:(

I thought Pogba played terrible during the U-20 world cup apart from the final and that Kondogbia played far better throughout the tournament yet he never featured in the final due to injury most likely.

Every time i switched over, the commentators were always going on about how poor Pogba had been and how Kondogbia had outshone him.

I want them both at the club. It's a position the team is considerably short of, having to rely on Arteta playing there, when he would be better further up the pitch IMO.

The fact you haven't gone for anyone with any conviction is terrible.

Southampton have even managed to sign a lot of good talent for decent money.

Cesar should have been an insta-buy, sure he is over 30, but he's still miles better than any keeper you currently have. Plus since hes with a relegated club im sure he would rather be playing for anyone else in the premiership instead with the world cup being next year.

In fact why hasn't anyone else went in for Cesar is a mystery also, he's a great keeper, it showed in the confederations cup.

Not to mention we all know keepers last longer than any other players. Friedel, Schwarzer, van Der Sar, Buffon, Lehman etc.

Indeed and thats why im just so damn fustrated at our inability to buy anyone and i mean ANYONE this summer. We go and make a £40mill bid for Suarez which was never going to happen and in the process backed out of the Higuain deal. And now we are making stupid ridiculous joke bids for other players, knowing full well that we will not get anyone of decent quality cheap.
As for Cesar??, im also surprised that no one else has gone in for him. He isnt on that high wages at QPR and QPR are willing to let him go for a nominal fee. Plus he wants to stay in London as well so really Arsenal should be biting QPR's hands off.

Something is very very wrong at Arsenal, either Wenger or the board have completely lost their marbles and dont have a clue on how to buy players anymore. So many players linked with us, all for them to go to other clubs. If Wenger thinks the squad we have now is good enough to win trophies and compete for the PL title then he has definitely lost it and its time he moved on tbqh. At least that way we can get someone in who has more hunger to win trophies and will not shirk from spending money.

Spurs have shown Arsenal how to spend money properly this summer, its embarrassing to see just how inept we are in the transfer window. I cant see us getting 4th this season especially seeing as Spurs have strengthened a lot this summer. Whether they keep Bale or not is not the point, point is that at the moment they are a stronger looking team.

Forgetting the Spurs for a minute, majority of other PL teams have all strengthened whereas we havent. ****ing joke Arsenal are at the moment.

Of course it does. Though they've shown exactly how to spend the money. Shame Dalglish and Co had their heads of their ****** when we had money to spend.

What cost Liverpool in that transfer window was trying to buy British and it severely bit them back. I think prem clubs have learned from what Liverpool did and are now a lot less inclined to buy British as you can get a better player from abroad for a lot less.

People knew that before that window, Liverpool are/were just stupid

Gomis and thauvin to Newcastle. Newcastle officials are over trying to secure the deals.

More frogs. Thauvin is a top talent mind

Our problem was we had a manager who had no clue about a modern transfer market and a French **** who has no clue whatsoever. I'd expect Stevie Wonder to be able to scout and buy better players. In fact the British players didn't even have to be scouted. Just watching Match of the Day showed you they were nothing more than average and had been their whole careers.
