tbh Arsenal should bid for Rooney just to unsettle the player, I'm pretty sure that would be Chelsea's aim if they actually put another bid in for him this summer, with no expectation they'd let him leave.

in terms of signings though it's insane, there's loads of good players out there, i think Wenger just can;t get his head round the price of players this window, every club is smashing their transfer record on someone and who'd have seen the day when everton could turn down 28m.

glad i support spurs, it's been a dream window for us

Dont worry fellow Gooners, looks like Wenger is going to try and get Casillas from Real:D:D

God where do they get these ridiculous rumours from and even if it is true, i cant see him moving from a club that does win trophies to one that has no chance of winning anything for the time being:p

And just to end it off on another hilarious note, Tony Adams thinks Wengers time is up and he wants to take over:p

What you talking about? He said he is "active 24/7"!!!

He may well be but its like watching it at snails pace:p.

Meh just excuses tbh, making stupid bids for players whose clubs wont sell to us unless they get a good jacked up price.

One excuse after another with Arsenal and Wenger.

Well they say money talks:p. Point im trying to make is that if we bid £40mill on Suarez, who also was not for sale then just put in a £40mill+ bidon Rooney and see if Utd jump...if they dont then fair enough but wont know till we try.

Utd wont sell him to Chelsea as it would make them much more stronger whereas Arsenal would be strong but we still need a few more players to make us proper competitors for the EPL title.

Because Suarez is 24(ish, I think), misses as many games as Rooney but at least it isn't because he's too lazy to get fit for the start of a season.

Rooney and 40mil.... lol. Heavier built guy, aging, putting in less effort, also used heavily from a very young age, to me very little of that spells "will be great into his mid 30's". He can have a great year still, isn't a player who can't, but threatening to leave a club as big as Utd twice in a few years, his general decline and no particular reason to believe he'll turn it around, 40mil for him would be a joke. I think 20mil would be risky depending on how he'd react at a club out of every competition before March, he'll either want out at that stage, or give up completely.

Well, Pogba won the golden ball at the U20 World Cup... which would lead me to question your assertion that he was terrible through the tournament, apart from the final...

you obviously don't know how the media works do you?

ronaldo played amazing throughout a certain world cup, had a fit before the final and played terrible, then everyone blamed him for the loss and said he played terrible because of that one game which was the most important and the last one.

certain other player's who have had amazing career's then in their later years rather than retiring keep on playing when they are past it and all people remember are those last years when they were below par.

michael owen is a great example of this, he has been absolute cack for the past few years which has really spoilt his career as a whole for me. same goes for Hargreaves too, do people remember him for how good he was or how much of a crock he is, knee's of glass?

pogba cruised through on lackluster performances to the final where he really turned it on, all people remember is the last game when judging the player of the tournie tbh, all previous performances go out the window.

what is that famous saying? your only as good as your last XXXXX, you can fill that blank in with anything tbh and it's true.

All these signings for Spurs and if Bale stays then I'm speechless. I have Spurs in my top 3 so I really hope these new signings gel by January and win the Europa.

I still don't think Bale's going, it's a ploy to get Ronaldo to extend his contract. With SAF gone, all the top 6 teams should have been strengthening greatly to take the top spot. Every team has except Arsenal.

Ronaldo won't extend his contract, will be sold back to United and Bale will leave next summer IMO.

I love your theories, NAU. Keep them up. They're great fun to read.

I think most United fans were not massively impressed with what they saw of Pogba but we wanted to keep him for the potential and the fact he was the French captain which usually suggests a certain level of player. We already had him and just needed to get him on a better contract and move him into the first team.

He looked like he thought he was better than he was and was rather languid in his play so he got caught on the ball a lot when he played the few times for the first XI. From watching the England U21 vs Scotland U21 you have a lot more time on the ball than in the premier league so I don't know about bringing him back to the EPL.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Spurs spent that much and kept Bale, because frankly if they can get in the champs league which is a more than achievable target, the extra income, plus new tv money and some increased sponsorship deals with being in the champs league could EASILY cover the extra. We're talking about 100mil spend as a one off, but tv money is going up 20mil or so, 20mil more being in the champs league every year. 100mil one off with the kind of income teams can generate isn't as big as it used to be and is more than doable. Spurs did 50mil a year for 2-3 seasons starting what, 5 years ago and tv money has since gone up significant as have most sponsorship deals.

But I wouldn't expect that team, even with Bale, to suddenly be championship worthy. Sure Chelsea have bought players this year but it was throughout last season having a year to gel Hazard/Luiz(longer term), Oscar and a few others that will probably let that team be quite significantly settled for this season.

I think Spurs with or without Bale can move up to 4th, if they get Willian and Lamela I don't think that will suddenly make them title contenders THIS season, but a year on... but next season could be a different matter entirely. The one advantage they have is no champs league this season. It is however more likely they'll sell Bale if they do that kind of spending. I think its entirely financially viable to spend that much, persuade Bale to stay and see what happens with Spurs in the next two seasons.

I wouldn't say no to Cabaye either, I like him - But I think there are other priorities first. If these other rumoured signings come off, then Cabaye on top of that would be nice. But I wouldn't want him before them.

That's the thing, I was listening to a podcast earlier and a few of the guys in the studio were saying how frustrating it would be if we actually splashed out on Cabaye when that sort of position/role is exactly the opposite of what we really need right now. If we're signing a midfielder then Gustavo would have been absolutely perfect for us in my opinion. I wish we signed Van Bommel on a free last year when his Milan contract expired, we could have done with someone like him in the middle. :(
