Tell me, why else would Chelsea want Willian? Along with the 6-7 other AM's they currently have?

If they wanted him, they would have gone in for him a lot sooner than just after he passed a Spurs medical.

It's complete BS on Chelsea's part.

Yes, they are quaking in their boots at the four trophies in thirty year giants.

Typical Liverpool fan looking backwards instead of forwards.

For the same reason Liverpool and Totttenham weren't in for him before, but then tried to sign him. Things have changed at Anzhi, as everyone now knows.

So why didn't Chelsea try and sign him when all the trouble kicked off over there? Why leave it until he's passed a Spurs medical?

Makes no sense apart from trying to stop Spurs getting better.

AVB's been trying to sign him both at chelsea and in january with spurs.

it's over anyway, we need to focus on not letting lamela slip.

That makes no sense? They know he's not going to be at Spurs next season.

They could have gone for Bale a long time ago if they were worried about Spurs though, even before RM came in for him. I'm sure you signing Lamela isn't going to change much.

They wouldn't have been worried with our previous squad with Bale.

Now though, with the money we've spent, and going to spend, with our without Bale, I can see why they would be a little worried.

The tinfoil hat side of me thinks that Chelsea have signed Willian purely politically either to weaken Spurs or to weaken/prevent strengthening of Real Madrid. If spurs pull the Bale deal off the back of this then RM are undoubtedly weaker than they would otherwise be in this year's CL.

£30m for Willian is a lot cheaper than trying to buy Bale off Spurs

Edit- the rational side of me says that Chelsea only have 5 players realistically competing (oscar, hazard, mata, sxhurrle, de bruyne) for 3 spots and Willian will make that 6 which is a much safer place to be.

Why weren't Tottenham in for him when Liverpool first asked? They had first dibs .

He didn't agree a deal with Liverpool, or have a medical.

Perhaps Chelsea had enquired earlier in the summer and been quoted a massive price. But then later in the summer all the above has transpired and they now know it's possible to get him, so have done.

Weeks after they knew Anzhi were selling? And just after he passed a medical at Spurs?

Sorry but Chelsea's squad is vastly superior to that of Spurs even with Soldado and Paulinho added. I can understand your logic if Man U or City had tried getting Willian but Spurs? No chance.

yet you can't see the logic behind why spurs fans may feel a little aggrieved that chelsea have paid £30m for a player they don't really need after passing a medical with us? and judging by some comments i've seen from other chelsea fans online, a lot of them feel the same way too.

Who knows what Mourinho has planned? He may not like Mata or Moses, he didn't sign Schurrle, so it's not unreasnable for him to want another attacking midfielder.

You're reading to much into it.

Perhaps, behind the scenes, they've been told more from Rooney's/Manyoo's camp that he's definitely not going to be moving this summer, so they've shifted to an old target now he's available.

That's in the past. This summer is the present. It seems as though he was unavailable, or only available at an eye-watering cost, earlier in the summer. Now he's seemingly available for £30m, which isn't Earth shattering in today's market.

so they can't get rooney (a striker) so they go for another attacking mid? if we were talking a <£10m player here, i could kind of understand but you don't spend £30m on a player in an area you're already spoilt for choice in. well, actually, this is chelsea.

it may be in the past but it's a valid point after you wondered why spurs weren't in for him before. when we were and AVB was when he was at chelsea.
