Don't believe all the doom and gloom. We have a strong first team. We added a goalie as backup, we added a DM in flamini who I think will be a bargain. Took a punt on a French kid.
We needed a goalie, CB, DM, and striker as back up.
Sagna has covered well at CB, we have flamini as cover for DM plus any position in back four. Walcott and podolski can play as striker.
AND we added ozil to team... I'm not too worried about the team as a whole especially when our injured players return.
Could wenger have picked more wisely? Maybe but improving our first team hasn't done us any harm.
it's the same as the Monreal deal, if Ozil walks in and replaces Walcott it's a genuine improvement, significant improvement, in the first team we can put out. But can Arsenal fans genuinely say that will happen or do we think Wenger's pet project will start regardless? Ozil is an excellent player, but significantly better than Cazorla or Podolski, no, and I'm about 85% sure he'll be replacing one of those players rather than one of our weaker players, meaning effectively a very small improvement in the team.
It would seem Wenger is "Arshavin'ing" Podolski, started dropping him towards the end of a very good season for no apparent reason to favour stupid players, then barely gets played the following season no matter how well he plays.
Podolski upfront, maybe, possibly, but how often, in what kind of form if he's not being used for months before Giroud potentially gets injured? Walcott upfront, do people remember the woeful woeful games of no chances when Walcott played upfront, he was absolutely and completely awful leading the line.
Flamini, aside from recently missing an entire season injured which is precisely what Arsenal wanted in a back up DM, is just that, back up. Wilshire is our DM unless we bought a top notch DM and had a spot in ACM for Wilshire to push into. Instead we've bought a stupid expensive player to put infront of WIlshire and pretty much made certain that Wilshire will only play DM for the forseeable future... while Arteta has been completely screwed.
Buying Ozil isn't simply the smallest actual improvement possible in the first team, its screwed up pushing Wilshire forwards. Not getting an out and out top notch DM has kept Wilshire in a combative role where he'll be kicked to pieces every game. I actually see Ozil's purchase as utterly screwing the development as Wilshire into the driving ACM he was always meant to be and pretty much made certain(till Ozil or Santi leave now) he'll be stuck in a DM role he might be very good at, but is no where near his best position.
As for Sagna as good cover at CB, Fenebache were woeful, one league game and he's been injury prone and very poor defensively for 3-4 years. You win titles based on how bad your worst players are more than how good your best players are, how good your cover is, how reliable and what form they can produce when called upon. Our awful rotation, poor quality cover and unreliable cover is what costs us over and over and over again every single year and its the thing that has gone completely and utterly ignored this summer.
