dmcg thats the best pic you have posted so far;)

So it seems like it took only one phone call from Wenger to convince Ozil to forget about Utd and PSG lol.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ne-phone-call-from-manager-Arsene-Wenger.html

Did not know that Wenger is fluent in German:eek:.

Moyes probably tried to speak to him in scottish but Ozil put the phone down on him thinking, who is this joker from Utd:p

Remember that Fergie quote?

They say he’s an intelligent man, right? Speaks five languages. I’ve got a 15-year-old boy from the Ivory Coast who speaks five languages!

Arsenal will play this imo:

Ramsey/Arteta/Flamini all fighting for that position in the pivot next to Wilshere. Would also depend on the opposition of course.

The Gooners first eleven looks pretty tasty. I think there are a few risks that will stop them seriously contending for the EPL and CL.

Szczeny is not a top class goalkeeper.

Mertesacker is not quick enough for the premiership. A strange thing to say perhaps given the number of international caps he has but he doesn't fill me with confidence. I am not sure what cover Arsenal have at CB but you only have to look at how injuries crippled United a few season ago in this key position. United now have Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Smalling and Jones all credible at CB. Presumably Vermaeljen is out injured for a while?

Wilshere still looks delicate in terms of his sustained fitness. Thats a real shame as he has the potential to be a world class CM. Compared to Cleverly he is miles ahead.

I think other people are correct in suggesting that going forward Arsenal are going to be irresistable at times but they don't appear to have strengthened at the back. Take out Wilshere and the team looks a little meek still.

Mert relies on his reading of the game and positioning to make up for his lack of pace, and when this fails Kos relies on his pace/athleticism to mop up, and vice versa. Kos' problem is he's quite aggressive in the tackle and can be a bit rash which obviously = cards or getting left in the dust when someone turns him inside out.

Loads of the goals we conceded last season were from set plays, which is more a collective lack of organisation, and if there's anywhere we get caught out, it's quite often down the flanks as Gibbs/Monreal and Jenks/Sagna make up for our lack of attacking width by charging upfield quite a lot which then means when we lose the ball and it's moved quickly back upfield the opposition have acres of space and people get dragged out of position. There was also a tendency for players to not track back and 'let the defence sort it out' but we're seeing a little less of this in terms of less cavalier attacking and more patience, although we've often lacked someone who can create since Cesc left... which is where Ozil will come in, hopefully.

Mert is very good, the problem is the depth in the squad. Look at the bench vs Spurs, it was woeful. That is why they won't challenge for the title. Their starting 11 defence is extremely good, look at their stats last season. It's a myth. They will drop loads of points purely from when their defence gets injured.

Problem here is:

Carzola is waisted as a winger. He is not naturally that kind of player. He doesn't posses pace to bit people out wide but most importantly he is too good a cm to play wide.

Second problem. Our cm is too light weight and small physically. We have no natural DM in there which is a problem.

Who do we play up front to rest/rotate giroud?

And Ramsay vs Arteta. Ramsay is on form now but better than Arteta?

Gibbs vs Montreal? I think when Montreal is fit he will start.

I admit haven't seen ozil play much , but all the state and media in the news make him sound like a very special player. Worthy of a high transfer fee.

Reports tho that there is a clause in his contract that says he is free to go if Arsenal don't make Champ league.

I think Cazorla would do absolutely fine on the left, as Ozil also moves out to the left a lot also, so there would be a lot of interchanging between the 2.

I also think Ramsey and Wilshere will/should be fighting for one spot at CM, with Arteta and Flamini fighting for the other. But all this is a little pointless, as there are so many players at Arsenal that can play in several different positions comfortably, which is definitely one of the best things about the Arsenal squad IMO.

Ozil is obviously an absolute huge signing, and will make a huge difference to the way the team attacks IMO, I still think Flamini could prove himself to be the best bit of business this season. His experience and quality will both be absolutely vital through the season.

Yeah, he looked alright in the Spurs game, maybe a bit bullish but generally got involved nicely.

Ozil and Carzola will compliment each other nicely, Carzola has played out wide left a few times last season and did ok there but what i imagine will happen is that Ozil and Carzola will drift around ie Carzola comes into the middle and Ozil will drift off to the left or right of the field or something like that.

Pretty sure Wenger has it sorted out, if he couldnt fit Carzola and Ozil in the middle, i dont think he would have bought him unless he is looking to offload Carzola come Jan time.

All in all its going to be very interesting to see how we line up, also with the CL games, League cup and FA cup games im sure either Carzola or Ozil will be rested.

My biggest fear is Giroud and whether he can play 50-60 games for us and not get injured but i suppose thats why Wenger kept hold of Bendtner to give him a final chance to shine when Giroud needs a rest or is injured etc.

Yea Flamini is a player we badly needed. He gets stuck in a bit like Gattuso. Needs to curb the aggression a bit tho or will get sent off.

I wish Arsenal would go back to the system they used to play back in 98-2000. We were the best counter attacking total football side in the country.

I'd say he definitely doesn't want to curb his aggression, that's his natural style of play, it would be very detrimental to ask him to play without that IMO.

I think Flamini is a the signing that Wenger needed to secure the defence and let the attacking players play more freely and it will turn out to be his bargain and best signing of the summer, above Ozil.

He'll do a job for us. Don't forget against the Spuds that was his first proper game in a while and he got thrown in at the deep end, he can only improve. He can probably cover in defence as well (sort of like how Mascherano has done for Barca), although I'd prefer we had actual defenders doing the defending. Also, squad rotation - although Ozil is an automatic first choice, given how fragile Wilshere is and the amount of games we have to play, it won't be a bad thing changing the lineup. I wish we had this 'problem' elsewhere on the pitch, particularly in attack - I mean we've called up two of the youngsters for the first team squad - one of them's 17!

Have you seen the guy play? Akpom is ridiculous for his age! He definitely has to fit in the bracket of players that are old enough purely because they're good enough!
