I always thought they got a bargain for the 80m they paid, he is in my eyes, the best player in the world, the marketing and merchandising alone is worth the fee, let alone the goals he brings.

I don't know the accuracy - but I read somewhere that RM made their money back on the Ronaldo deal by Xmas of the same year (ie in "additional" revenue)

You attempt to make the best of Torres because you have him. You certainly wouldnt sign him now and invite the problem.

He was a busted flush at Liverpool just because of the sheer number of games he played for club and country, he was essentially "broken", not entirely unlike Michael Owen. That doesnt mean he cant have a career but he will never hit the same heights.

He was doing fine a week before he left and then turned to crap, looks a bit more to it than being broken

Also bar his first season I dont think he played that many games for us over the other two seasons

In the 10/11 season he did no worse for you than he has done at Chelsea.

10/11: 40 Starts 14 Subs 13 Goals 4 Assists
11/12: 34 Starts 24 Subs 12 Goals 12 Assists
11/13: 56 Starts 20 Subs 27 Goals 8 Assists

His shots are pretty similar season on season, when taking his games/goals into consideration. http://espnfc.com/player/_/id/24257/fernando-torres?cc=5739#

So I don't know where this always comes from that he didn't turn crap until Chelsea? He left you in bad form, and never recovered.

I can't really see how Chelsea can manage to sell Torres.

He hasn't been too good for Chelsea (15 in 82 according to Wikipedia), and I would assume Chelsea would want a 'good' sum for him, considering he was bought for £50M. Apart from that, his wages ain't cheap.

Best thing would be wait till his contract expires. Its a shame he is still 'young'.

3 words - Roy ****ing Hodgson.

In the season before Hodgson took over he had arguably his best season in his career. Under Hodgson the whole team were playing crap and as a side we were struggling to score and in the bottom half of the table - no wonder his goals dried up.

You could see him the change in his performances the day Dalglish took over. In the 5 games he played under Dalglish he scored 3 (nearly 4, 1 went down as an og) and was clearly playing much better.

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but wasn't there an international tournament before that season where Torres was pretty crap? I thought the rot started there?

He got injured a couple of months before the end of the previous season and clearly wasn't fit going into the WC. IINM, he wasn't even fit to start the first game.

A player doesn't become a bad player because they had a ban WC otherwise every English player would be ****.

CasKirensys mentioned that Torres had a similar record for us in 10/11 as justification that his demise started before joining Chelsea - that's hugely misleading. In the first half of that season he was playing for a side under Hodgson that were playing terrible, negative football, in the bottom half of the table. At Chelsea it was the opposite.

If you look at his form prior to Hodgson arriving (the season directly before was his best ever) and even the 5 games between Hodgson getting sacked and Torres leaving, he record and performances were much better than at Chelsea.

So it was all Hodgson's fault? Fancy that :p

All the evidence suggests that. You try scoring goals when you're left up front on your own feeding off punts from the back.

Torres' last full season for us - 22 goals in 32 games.
Under Hodgson - 6 goals in 21 games.
Under Daglish - 3 goals in 5 games.

Coincidence?

Not convinced by Cesar so hoping we don't sign him, I don't think he's any better than Sir Chesney and is about 10 years older. If we are going to buy a keeper then they have to be a genuine top keeper, no point buying an average one and paying them £50k+/week

Have to agree that Hodgson is a very defence minded coach. I really didn't think he would suit Liverpool as they should be looking to win every game they play and I'm not sure Hodgson could ever have that mentality.

according to todays sunday times, real would be willing to push to £85m for bale.

of course, what will happen soon, is bale will be persuaded into handing in a transfer request by his agent, real then have the ace card and he and suarez are both purchased for £85m :(

Luis Suarez is available on a free transfer now? Sorry, I'm not quite following, if Real purchase Gareth Bale for £85m then how do they also get Luis Suarez thrown into the deal unless you're suggesting that Liverpool's management would offer him up for a packet of Space Raiders and a few cola bottles? I know some people have their doubts about the negotiating skills of Liverpool's management but that seems a little bit harsh, I think they'd at least get a Curly Wurly thrown in. :p

Sadly my team is still fending off administration and most of the transfers are out rather than in, apart from Danny Wilson, coincidentally ex of Liverpool also.
