Not really

Yes really, if Real were (and tbh I highly doubt it is true) to sign Bale for 80m one of two things has happened; either they overpaid for Bale or in hindisght they got Ronaldo on the cheap and if it did actually happen then arguments would be made for both. All totally hypothetical mind because there's not a chance in hell Bale will move from little old Tottenham Hotspur for 80m, half that and you've got a fee a little closer to realism (same applies to Suarez and this 40m fee banded around for him)

Well i suppose one day we will find out if Bale will be sold or not. I wasnt aware that transfer fees included the wages and contract length, i was always under the impression that the transfer fee only included the sale of the player and wages/contract were a separate entity to that.
.

You have never seen "speculation" articles bandying about figures stating x player going for x tens of millions , and then finding out its including wages?

If you haven't read that many then fair enough - but it usually happens with a lot of these media speculation articles every summer

Huge figures in headlines draws readers in - simple as that.

RM have never said publicly "We will offer £80m for x player" - its against their interests to do so until after the deal has been done. Its the media making up figures

i really don't understand why people feel bale has only had one good season? this was his best season but he's been progressing since redknapp joined spurs.

Because simply put he has had one good season :confused:ie this past season. Of course hes been progressing since dodgy 'Arry took over a few yrs ago but really this season has been his 'breakout' season.

What will be interesting is that if Spurs dont sell him this summer, will he kick on and become even better or will he have a season where his last was the best that he could muster.

Depends on how you define one good season, personally I'm inclined to agree with cm on this occasion given Bale is a young player who you'd expect to continue to improve upon their previous best but that doesn't necessary mean he's only had one good season; I mean if Bale were to score 30 goals next season does that then make that his one good season?

Considering the money being talked about - yes he has had one good season.

He did very well for his age 2 seasons ago, but it wasn't ~£50m good either

Undoubtedly he can get better than he was in the 12/13 season - but 13/14 is where he will prove his consistancy

If by considering the money talked about you mean 80m then no he hasn't even had one good season

As it is though you can't judge a players season on how much the tabloids are spouting it'll cost another club to buy them

Even half that amount, its still only 1 good season

He is only 23 (ish) so his career trajectory is going in the right direction at a very positive rate.

While I would be very surprised indeed if the actual transfer amount was anywhere near £80m (if it happens this summer), given the crazy amounts in footy these days in general I wouldn't be surprised if it was north of £50m to a foreign club.

If Levy "gives in" and does end up selling to any of the EPL challangers - then that figure will understandably will get a lot higher (if for no other reason than the new TV deal as of this coming season)

If Bale were to go for 80m (lol) then we were well and truly shafted by Madrid for Ronaldo :(

I always thought they got a bargain for the 80m they paid, he is in my eyes, the best player in the world, the marketing and merchandising alone is worth the fee, let alone the goals he brings.

IF Levy does sell it will be to Madrid. It wouldn't be very good business sense to make your direct competitors stronger while simultaneously making yourselves weaker. I predict he won't go to another PL club.

With Cavani looking set to leave Napoli it will be interesting to see if ex-Interim fancies a punt on Torres as a replacement as he apparently thinks he's still got what it takes and I'm sure Chelsea would take any offer for him.

Wages.

The Italian teams are going to struggle to get anywhere near the wages he will be on at Chelsea.

Hopefully he'll be available for less wages than he's currently on & I'd like to hear ex-Interim at least say he's interested in signing him.
If Chelsea don't want him and he refuses to take a lesser deal (like Bogarde & Malouda) then he'd have to waste away in the reserves and training with the kids but I can't see him doing that at his age so he might fancy another bumming session with his former fat lover.

Indeed, from what I heard they were looking at a cash + Torres for Cavani situation but I can't see FSW going for that unless he really does bum Torres.

You'll either have to pay him off or subsadise his wages for the remainder of his contract - he won't walk away from £170k per week and Napoli won't give him half of that.

edit: I'm not sure about Torres in Italy or whether Benitez would be that interested in taking him either.

Torres wouldn't last in Italy, He's lost his speed which was what made him so good with his finishing, In Italy they defend so well and are organised very well i couldn't see him doing well there. Spain would be his best destination he would be guaranteed goals there.

If he refuses to leave he will just be a bench warmer on 170k a week, I dont honestly think he would go to a club and take like an 80% wage cut. Lets face it he wont get big money any where because he's ****.

Please fully star out all swearing in future. Thank you.

You attempt to make the best of Torres because you have him. You certainly wouldnt sign him now and invite the problem.

He was a busted flush at Liverpool just because of the sheer number of games he played for club and country, he was essentially "broken", not entirely unlike Michael Owen. That doesnt mean he cant have a career but he will never hit the same heights.
