Summer Transfer Window 22/23

You will always overpay when you are desperate, and when you have no champions league football or much else to offer like United at the moment. They are paying through the nose for everyone.

That leaves the question though, are player just joining for the money? Could you be left in another mercenary situation 18 months down the line?
I think the No champs league thing is a bit of fallacy tbh. We’ve seen a few teams outside of the champs league pick up top players this year for decent prices. Newcastle ano Arsenal two examples of teams who have picked up some real quality, even West Ham look like they’ve got Pacquefa who is highly rated as is Onana at Everton. There’s been a few more dotted around as well.

Theres no doubt the CL gives you an edge, but not as much of an edge as people seem to think.

I think you're both wrong, I've never seen a player let off from criticism because he cost less. Eriksen missed a golden chance against Southampton, would it have been worse if Bruno had missed that because he cost more? I don't think so. The media love to talk about transfer fees (and height now) but for fans I don't think it matters one jot. Once you're on the field the expectations are the same whether you cost 20m or 50m or came from the academy.
Do you think we would be so annoyed with the Pepe situation if he had cost £20m instead of £72m. Of course we bloody wouldn’t!

That level of price tag brings increased expectations, whether you like it or not. We’re not worried about Tavares being a let down, because £8m is a drop in the ocean.

Yes of course, if Elanga is on one wing and Antony is on the other I'm not going to just accept a poor performance from Elanga because he cost less. You step on the pitch the expectation is the same. if you're kid and you're not at that level then I want you to go on loan until you are good enough.
Would you be happy to send Antony on loan if he wasn’t good enough?

Squad depth is one of footballs biggest problems nowadays. With so many games and such high transfer prices, it’s become very difficult for teams to build strong depth. It’s the number one reason that City dominate the league. £50m player out, £50m player in. Hardly any other teams can do that with the regularity they can.

We need players fast! Now Elneny and Partey are injured for a while and Saka is underperforming.

If we don’t get a quality CM and winger, our promising start will screech to a halt and it would be shocking incompetence from Edu and Arteta

Arthur is not good enough for Liverpool. Juventus have been trying to offload him to us for two years for Gabriel and Aubameyang.

We just point blank rejected him. If he’s not good enough for us, then he’s not good enough for Liverpool
